Default Yamaha RX-V663 Discovery 5.1 to 7.1

I use my HTPC now as my main Blu-ray player, I send a 7.1 LPCM signal at 192khz to my Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver. What I have noticed - not only does my output get upconverted to 192khz by Vista, but DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and TrueHD 5.1 audio get matrixed to 7.1 by the Yamaha. The signal reads 7.1 PCM with all of the speakers lit up on the pannel. This is sounds just awesome to me! Have any of you noticed the Yamaha having the ability to matrix 7.1 from 5.1 LPCM signals? I have compaired the sound from my LG to that of my HTPC...the HTPC is now first string. I thinking about building another one! The Yamaha is an excellent prepro - I could image using one of the higher models in the Yamaha line!

Just watched I,Robot and Eragon - whoa!!!!!!

I don't know if you already knew this, but most receivers (not sure if all) cannot matrix a Bitstream Lossless signal. So if you were to bitstream 5.1 TrueHD all you would get is 5.1

That's another advantage of PCM, it can be matrixed on many receivers. But usually lower end models do not have this feature. Thankfully Yamaha implemented this feature on their lower models.

Crackin if you remember that I PM'd you about that very thing on my Sony 920, that I was getting a full matrixed 6.1 (6.1 setup) over LPCM, for bitstream I use the digital cinema mode and get it to play 6.1 that way. Using AFD I will get whatever was mastered on the blu.

Hey guys I am having trouble with my new 663 trying to get it to do the matrixing from 5.1 to 7.1 what do i need to set the reciever to in order to do that?

help would greatly be appreciated, since I JUST got my new T90e's to get to 7.1 more options have opened up (kinda overwhelming)...or even direction to a thread

btw, and since the 663 can only matrix 7.1 PCM rather than bitstream there is now a point for me making sure I got the Panasonic 35 (with TrueHD and MA) rather than the sony 350 (without them)

you need to have the player decoding (Linear PCM), and use a listening mode: PrologicIIx Cinema

thanks. shouldnt that also work for dvds? I am trying to get Hot Fuzz to go to 7.1...but all the reciever says is "PCM" and only the sides and front are playing.

I know exactly what you want me to set it to, but the reciever just wont change to the setting. I will let me change it when I set it to bitstream but then it cant matrix. any ideas or thoughts?

it should be able to matrix a standard bitstream signal, just not a lossless bitstream signal.

So for DVD's set to bitstream, you should still be able to apply the listening mode.
