And let's hope they get it right and correct the spanish Dracula with proper subtitles and NOT only a closed caption option. Also lets have the right aspect ratio on Bride of Frankenstein. I love B&W horror movies in HD! It's cinematic nirvana! Last edited by Yojimbo68; 02-21-2011 at 03:46 AM. |

Seriously what's the holdup with these? When Universal included the original Wolfman as an extra on the remake's blu via BD-Live I wasn't sure whether it meant these classics were on their way or weren't a high enough priority to simply warrant blu-ray releases all their own. I'm starting to think it's the latter, but I sure hope I'm proven wrong sooner than later.

Pretty diverse list, and all outstanding choices, the only problem is that it really runs the gambit of studios.
The Universal Classics, well there are titles that haven’t been released on DVD as of yet (Island of Lost Souls). But Universal has always gone to that aspect of there catalog, it’s just that these will be so scrutinized that they need to get it right. Remember reading that a few years ago that someone found a lavender print of Lugosi’s Dracula, so hopefully better elements exist to give a stunning picture. Some of the other titles mentioned, I could see coming form Kino, they have a good rep for tackling the German silent’s, and once they are done with this run of Keaton’s maybe we will get something great, I am hoping that it would be Nosferatu, by possibly this Halloween timeframe, but no half-assing it. Other titles that Kino has done in the past might be a good indication. White Zombie, where to start, first I am a Lugosi nut, and totally love this movie, the other two (King and Revolt) not so much. But the question is who has the distribution rights. Yes I know PD title, so who ever can do what they want, years back the Roan Collection did a restoration and a decent DVD via Troma, that wouldn’t hold up in 1080p, don’t know that last time this was looked at and restored, but if it was done properly, I think this could really surprise a lot of people Phantom of the Opera, ok so are we talking Lon Chaney, or Claude Rains? 1925 or 1929 reissue? Image Entertainment (Milestone Films) possibly, I don’t think Milestone had done a blu yet. The rest of your list pretty much lie at WB, which is to say, outstanding at catalog releases, so there is hope. |
