Talking UPDATED 01/28/09- Just got the Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85U!!

So after a lengthy discussion with great people- Brett Day and Eric (aka crackinhedz)-- I bit the bullet and purchased the Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ80U 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV from Best Buy. Before I get flamed for purchasing from Best Buy please know I had some Reward Zone $$$'s saved up for just the thing. I also had it delivered during the first available day which was 01/26/09... which is also a RARE day that I had both work off and school off (It seemed like God WANTED me to have this TV...)

I really had my eyes set for the 46'' 85u 50'' 85u or the 50'' 80u but money and the size of the TV got in the way. First of all my home theater set up is in my bedroom (yes, I still live at home.. but its in the basement level so its not so bad.)

I have a queen sized bed and the 50'' would be just as large as the width of my bed (almost). I have my set up right at the foot of my bed so a 50'' might be too much overkill.

I paid a little bit more than I probably should have for the set... It was around $1150 delivered for the 46'' pz80U... which is a good amount I know. The reason why I went for this price was because it's going to be delivered on a date that is EXTREMELY convenient for me and I can be here to receive the TV instead of having one of my brothers take it in.

... this is my first big purchase in terms of a real big-time TV. My personal TV is the Dynex 42'' 1080p LCD HDTV, with the 73'' Mitsu DLP in the den. Did I do the right thing in purchasing the TH-46PZ80U?

FURASHU!~~ oh man... we did just order the same dang TV at the same dang time!!! I just checked the contrast of my Dynex and its 2,000:1. The Panny is 20,000:1 native contrast and I think 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast.

Can we say: UPGRADE!

haha different companies measure their contrast ratios in their own ways, but in a numbers way sure. but deeper blacks and better colors for sure.

Best Buy just e-mailed me saying that they didn't have the TV in stock for shipment in my area. What a bummer... I wanted that set for this Monday.. I don't really know what to do now, I guess back to the drawing board.

Yes, stealing it would have been bad.
But seriously, great choice...you will be amazed at how much better your viewing experience is now over your LCD and DLP sets.

D'oh! I spoke too soon. Might as well swallow it up and go with the 50"

Doby- you're so right. I am now upgrading to the 85u series and trying to decide between the 46'' or the 50''. It's a toss up and I have both in the cart on Amazon just waiting for me to pull the trigger. The 50'' is $200 more...

on the other hand I have $75 in gift certs from Amazon so that helps..

I started out to buy a 37" due to the size of my bedroom wall, doors in way,
and ended up with a 42"... sure glad I didn't go with the smaller, If you don't like your 50", I have a two year old 42" I'll trade

they may even sweeten the price, seeing how they can't deliver the 42"

what i like about amazon is that i can schedule the delivery which is the most important deal maker for me.. i would pay an extra 100 just to have it on time and on the day i need it to be here..
