I'd prefer comments of people on this site, I never base my purchases on media reviews.

Looks like a good game.. I may rent it.

Here's what I typed up on another board, copied and pasted:

Quote:
"Well, ended up picking it up at BestBuy on the way home from work.

It started of kinda clunky. Another game where you have to get used to swinging, much like how Ultimate was awkward at first. I think I'm at speed level 4, and its getting a little easier.

I also dont want to say I hate it yet, but so far I'm kinda leaning in that direction.

The graphics are HOT. VERY hot. Only really appreciated though when you stand still.

When swinging, the camera does this weird angle thing where the lean kinda follows which way Spidey is leaning. They seem to give the background some kind of blur effect while swinging too.

I actually like the combat system a little better. The slo-mo thing helps a lot, and its good for seeing more of the action thats taking place.

Overall though, I have a headache, and I think its from the awkward swinging. It makes me feel dizzy and my eyes hurt.

This could also be from not sleeping very well last night, but I was fine until I started playing the game.
"
I'm really not trying to make final judgement yet though. I mean, I did play it for hours and had trouble putting it down. Perfect? Not by any means. Horrible? I wouldnt say that. If you really loved the other Spidey games, then I dont see why you should like this one too. If you hated the old ones, nothing here will differ enough to make you like this one.

Also, one of the BIG reasons I bought it was the playable Goblin factor, so I'll withhold a final decision based on that too.

picked it up after I saw it at IMax at 1030 am this moring and played a good hr into it. Its not bad, the controls are a lil to get used to and the pop-up kinda sucks because you can notice it but it doesnt affect the game play at all....theres a lot of stuff to do in the game and it should be fun, the city is so huge and looks great....I suggest it to only those who love spiderman.....overall, not as good as it could have been, I think they rushed it out to coincide with the movie release.....which if it was a seperate release it prolly would have been pushed back a month or two to fix the bugs.....

In the video industry, "hot" means too bright. Are you saying the graphics are too bright, or that they look good?

I think it's pretty good, I played about 3-4 hours today. The goblin character is ok, nothing great. I havent got too far into the game, but it's not that bad. Like above, if you liked the previous games, then you would probably like it.

Gamespot gave this game a 6.6/10 which is even harsher than I was expecting.

Seeing some very mediocre reviews pour out.

I am not liking the game too much. I got the collectors edition and have not unlocked New Goblin yet, but a review on IGN said he feels tacked on and only has race missions.

I am a big Spidy fan and was looking forward to this game, but it has a been there done that feeling if you have played Spiderman 2 or Ultimate Spiderman.

I had my wife pick it up for me yesterday was I was working, and when I got home, I went right to see the movie at an IMAX about 90 minutes from here...

I really enjoyed the movie, but got home last night and was too tired to play...

Put about two hours onto the game as of right now and so far, I am enjoying it.

The graphics are pretty hit and miss for the most part. There is some minor framerate issues and there is a horrible amount of pop-in. However, everything has a pretty cool shine to it giving it a nice comic book look, and when you are standing up on top of a high rise checking out the city it does look pretty cool. The water effects are pretty decent as well. Overall visually, I wouldn't say it is the best looking game on any of these next generation consoles, but it certainly shows enough off to prove that it could not have been accomplised last generation.

I think the gameplay is really where most reviewers are getting pissed off. Some of the boss fights are pretty repetitive and it pretty much is a button masher for the most part. As you use more and more of a certain skill, you gain new moves and the like, but overall it pretty much is all filler. All you need to really do to win a fight is keep mashing the punch button. Most of the missions I have played have been pretty cool though, and I love doing all of the activities like sky diving and racing.

Overall if you have the money to spend it is worth the purchase if you are a spiderman fan.

I unlocked him this morning. He does feel a little tacked on. Steering is sixaxis only, and it takes some getting used to. Hopefully, it will get easier over time like the webswinging.

For missions, yes, only races, but the random crime events pop up for him as well. You can do those, but its awkward, as you cant really 'land'. Even turning around to face someone new consists of using the motion controls. But if you time a combo properly, you can take out thugs by barely using the motion controls.

I don't think you can beat the Goblin boss by just pushing the punch button.

Just finished the first fight with Sandman (also first time you get the black suit in the game). It was REALLY fun. Like, God of War style fun. The mix of button mashing fighting along with timed button push sequences, was all great. Possibly the fact that you seem to be doing more damage with the black suit made it cooler too, but overall, the scripted stuff was hardcore, and the fight was the best in the game so far.

Another thing I realized about this game: I love the story/stories. All of them are pretty damn enjoyable. The NPCs arent too dull and lifeless. A lot of them actually have personality. The 'The Apocalypse" guy you fight towards the beginning was cool. Loving both the Lizard and Scorpion stories, and Scorpion's design is freakin rad. It threw me off a bit in the commercials when I first saw it, but now I love it.

I picked mine up on the 5th after seeing the movie. I like the game but it can be difficult to control him at times. I recall the first game (ps2) taking awhile to get used to as well. So far though I like the "ultimate spider-man" one the most.
