Default Harry Potter???

Sorry if this has been covered, but I am new here. I was wondering if anybody know if the Harry Potter movies will be coming to blu-ray. I know they are going to HD-DVD but I see that Warner is releasing other movies to blu-ray and I am hoping that the Potter films will come too. Thanks for your help. John

Right now Warners is waiting for BD-Java, Blu-ray's special features engine, to get finalized for IME, the in-movie experience, before they release big-hitters on BD (like Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Matrix). There's a bit more to the IME that they're waiting for, but that's the skinny; they want to have the same extra features on both formats, and right now they're waiting for the finalization of Blu-ray's IME standardizing.

Note: Blood Diamond, which will be out June 5 for BD, and a month later for HD-DVD, will have different features. The HD-DVD release will have more special features than the BD release, but I think that's all the differences between the two. So, if you don't really care for the extras and you want to show Warners that fact so they'll consider putting out Harry Potter w/out the extra features, buy Blood Diamond so they see that content is king.

Warner Bros. is a (somewhat) neutral studio. Anything that is or will be on HD DVD will be on Blu-ray at some point.

"Somewhat" is the best way to put it.

They said in a press release that Hary Potter will hit Blu-ray this year. There's also pictures of it on the BDA's website. They've yet to when it's coming, and I myself really want to know as I will definitely be getting them. I have to figure it will come out late in the year, and that all 5 will be released around that time. Less than 5 months is kinda quick for theater to DVD/Blu, but they'd be fools not to release before December.
