Default What's Up With All The Reshufflings Of 6/5?

1st Disney bumps Cars, The Rock, Con Air & Crimson Tide & then Sony takes away Jerry Maguire & A Few Good Men.

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...eet_Dates_/613

I just looked at my Amazon order Jerry Maguire & A Few Good Men aren't available any longer for pre-order. I checked DVDempire & they've been taken off of there also.

Does anyone know why all of those titles have been taken off that date with no new release dates given?

My guess is the security issues going on now or they feel its not ready yet for release. My guess is your guess.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that studios are rethinking their release strategy. There are some big titles coming out, and the studios may not want to lose catalogue sales to the bigger releases. As long as there is a steady stream of content from week to week, Blu-ray sales will dominate. When the monthly sales data comes in, the BDA can claim another month of victories. Just my guess.

That's what I was thinking, no need to blow the wad all on one day, spread that out and keep putting a hurting on HD-DVD. We do need some more announcements though, and I still think studios should still focus on getting recent blockbusters out instead of older catalog titles.

Spread it out and put a hurting on HDDVD, and save my wallet a little anxiety

LOL for some reason, $200 over a few weeks, is better than $200 all at once.

I agree with both of you. I think they're planning to use their big BD titles more strategically rather than hurting each others' sales by releasing too much at once and then having a dry spell.

You have to admit, there is more buzz and excitement about a title when it first comes out on BD rather than when it's a few weeks old.

And also the Blu-ray installed base is still relatively small. We probably buy lots more titles than the average J6P, but we can only absorb so many. Heck, the next few months are going to be a budget-buster for me. I really have to pace myself from now on.

I think it was way too many titles for that day, so some got postponed. Sux tho, I wanted The Rock.

It was looking like Blu-ray would have this massive June 5, and then be a bit thin for the rest of June and July.

Considering this is when Universal is supposed to release a flood of HD DVD titles, releasing so much on June 5 wouldn't have been a strategically wise move.

This is good. June 5 was really overcrowded IMO. Spread it out a bit more and let it breathe.

That was looking like what the game industry does that drives me nuts: Weeks or months of trickling and then suddenly you get this week or two of tons of titles and then it's back to trickling again.

I would suspect is has not only something slight to do with security, but also a lot to do with BD-Java and added features.

If I were a studio, I'd certainly want to wait for the BDJ finalization before I went crazy.

POTC won't be pulled because that Friday (May 25th) is when the 3rd hits theaters. Hopefully they'll put the "movie cash" ticket rebate in the BD releases.

I agree that it would be difficult to spring for a lot of movies at once. But once these titles are released, they will always be there for you to purchase after that point in time. That also helps to improve continuous sales numbers, because people can buy titles they crave as their budgets allow instead of just really strong sales numbers on the first few days after release. In the end, I think either way would work fine. Maybe they are just trying to find a perfect balance between supply and demand of titles.
