Default The Wiz

Has anyone else had a problem with their blu ray copy of The Wiz?
I have purchased The Wiz 3 times and all 3 discs have been bad.It is not my player because my new Fantasia blu ray plays just fine. When The Wiz loads, the disc icon spins and spins, and then says Check Disc and ejects.I guess I will just wait til a new batch comes out.

You are aware that the contents on "The Wiz" are different than the contents on Fantasia...... Did you update your firmware?

The Wiz is the black version of The Wizard of Oz. I actually like it better to as the music is great and like Beta said Michael is in it and does a great job as the scarecrow. Got Em!!

My LG Blu ray player has been updated and all 3 discs of The Wiz have said Check Disc and ejected from my unit.I put in several other blu ray movies after this and ALL of them played perfectly.

I currently have a few movies that I can't play on my Samsung... and am hoping/waiting for them to address it... so it isn't impossible that you could have a similar scenario where it is still firmware and LG hasn't addressed it yet.

You might try looking on AVSForum for people who have the same model LG player as you and ask if any of them know about problems with the Wiz.

I didn't know the Wiz had come out on Blu-ray.... I agree that Michael Jackson made a good scarecrow... I haven't seen this since I was a kid, but I remember "Ease on down the road" as being catchy.

It is often describes as "the black Wizard of Oz"... but it might more accurately be described as that era's modernized Wizard of Oz too because it wasn't like it was only made for a black audience or something... a lot of the people in it (like Michael Jackson and Diana Ross just to hit the headliners) had big crossover appeal with everyone.

I'll have to see where there are good deals to be had on this now that I know it is out on Blu.

I have played The Wiz twice since I received it from amazon with no problems. It may be your bd player. Hopefully they'll have a firmware upgrade for you so you can "ease on down the road"

I have plans to add The Wiz to my Blu-Ray collection as well. My Blu-Ray player is a Panasonic and has lasted me well for several years. Usually no problems, touch wood...

Dang....I already own the VHS, Standard DVD ,and the 30th Anniversary DVD.

I guess the BD is next. I've never seen this on BD at the stores.

The extras on the 30th Version were pretty good.

I've had no problem to speak of with my Blu-Ray copy of The Wiz. Samsung 50 inch HDTV Plasma with Panasonic Blu-Ray - no playback problems... so far.

I know this is an old thread, but I was very impressed with The Wiz on Blu-Ray. It was one of the first titles I bought on the format (I'm a huge collector of Oz on home video) and really demonstrated that high definition really can make a clearer image than DVD. I even wound up playing some scenes on occasion. The Wiz features a lot of visual elements, but some scenes are in dark locations (Munchkinland, the "Poppy Fields," and all of the Emerald City scenes), so they looked really muted on DVD. On Blu-Ray, they were much more noticeable.

Not too long into doing this, I noticed the disc would freeze up during some scenes, sometimes just freezing, and sometimes skipping ahead. After cleaning the disc, the problem persisted. I wound up buying another copy and while I haven't given that one a lot of use, it hasn't had the same problem.

Yet.

(Hey, it's the movie's 40th anniversary, where's the 4K upgrade?)

Hi, I am a huge fan of The Wiz. But which Blu-ray should I get? The Amazon one or the Mediumrare Entertainment one? Or is only the Amazon one available?

I’m sure most people in North America would go for the Universal Studios release that is region free. The Mediumrare disc is from the U.K. and very likely could be locked to region B players.

I don't get the "I'm Magic" disc, or if it's a joke, or what...?

But thanks for the advice that the Universal Studios one is probably best for an American like me!

I'm Magic seems to be the 1984 Italian reissue title, most likely to cash in on the MJ mega craze back then.
