Last week my grandparents got a new 32" Vizzio TV 1080p i think from what they told me. They also got a Blu-ray player to go with it.
What i would like to do is find them some blu-rays of movies for a older audience. They generally dont like most action movies as they are too violent. They do enjoy many documentaries. I will get them planet earth, as that is a good movie for anyone. So maybe just some suggestion of older movies and such. Any help would be great! |

Hard to give too much advice without knowing much about what kind of movies they actually like, but...
It's not cheap, but "Casablanca" is out on blu. "How The West Was Won" gets a ton of acclaim for its picture quality. "The Searchers" is a Western, so dunno on how the violence level would be received, but it's a John Wayne movie and very well regarded. The only doc's I have on blu are Planet Earth and Baraka. |

The Pink Panther (1967) is always a good one.
The Fall is a fantastic one as well. Doubt (next week) is brilliant Space Cowboys Unforgiven (a bit of violence in this one though) Ghost Mamma Mia, Chicago, or Hairspray (musicals) Young Frankenstein Gandhi Frost/Nixon is released next month Gran Torino is released in June and of course, Grumpy Old Men ![]() Hope that helps EDIT: I misread and thought you said they don't like documentaries. In that case: I can vouch for Galapagos, Relentless Enemies, and March of the Penguins as wonderful documentaries. I want to check out Kingdom of the Blue Whale as well because they're just fascinating. Last edited by Lepidopterous; 03-31-2009 at 08:02 AM. |

I suggest Brokeback Mountain
![]() sorry that was to easy. August Rush is a very good all ages movie. So is Billy Elliot Small indie movie called Mozart and the Whale another indie movie called Smoke Signals these are some of my favorite movies I can watch over and over again. no bad language, no overt sexual scenes.. just good little known films. *opps! just realized with the exception of August Rush, none of the other ones I suggested have made it to BD. but fine films on SD DVD none the less. Just cuz they're old doesn't mean they want to see old movies. There are plenty of recent releases that are suitable for general adult audiences who don't like gratuitous violence, gore, profanity or nudity.
Why wouldn't they like POTC, Iron Man, 3:10 to Yuma, Youth without Youth, King Kong, The Express, Leatherheads, Master and Commander (a bit older), I am Legend, etc. If they like classical music, there are plenty of those, as well. |

I too am a grandfather, but my oldest grandchild is 13, so I am guessing that your grandparents are a little older than my age of 60. (actually I will be 60 in May). I do not like movies with a lot of blood and gore, like the Saw films. Perhaps this is the kind of "Violence" that they do not like. They may be associating gore with violence. If that is the case, most all of the above mentioned films would be fine. Also, The Longest Day, An American in Paris, South Pacific, and Gigi. Also, The Robe. And do not forget Disney. I am a big fan and always will be. So grab Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio, and tell your grandpa to keep the volume down.

How "OLD" are we talking? Your grandparents are likely younger or around the same age as my parents...... and they like stuff like "Miracle" "We Are Marshall" in addition to stuff like "Battle of Britain" and "The Dirty Dozen"
My mother also likes Chick-Flicks.... so I guess they never grow out of those ![]() My parents are 73 and 76...... EDIT:.... I'm 30..... my parents were some wild old folks ![]() |
