Presuming that the 10,000 positions being cut were minimum wage jobs [us] @ 40 / wk, the board members would be getting ~ 109mill a year to be a comparable statement.

And I can assure you, that the jobs being cut aren't all minimum wage [us] jobs, especially since the minimum wage in CA is higher than the federal minimum wage.

Seems they're doing some of that as well.

Marketwatch story here.

Quote:
In other cost-cutting measures, the company said it would cut executive pay by 20% to 50%.
And...oddly...

Quote:
Even though the auto market is still subdued, we expect the market will pick up by March 2011, after which there will be a new business opportunity in the areas of environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient cars. ... We hope to take up the new challenge using our position in the market and our technological advantages," Kotani said.

It's not about salaries. To stockholders, it's ALL about headcount.

It's funny how one of the posters says blame everyone buying LCD

Pioneer are a great company from the PQ department in their kuro range but i think they should have tried to cut their prices a bit more or something if possible to bolster sales

Was happy of all the promise they had & now we'll never see those cocept models as reality which is a shame

I do hope they make a comeback which is still possible sometime down the road

Pioneer simply made the classic mistake of not paying attention to much of the market.

Their high end Kuro plasma TVs were great. And they also have some very good high end AV receivers. But their mainstream offerings have not been good lately.

Just look at what they did last year when bringing new Blu-ray players to the marketplace. While other manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic were introducing BD Live/profile 2.0 BD players at price points under $400-$500 -Pioneer tosses a couple of profile 1.1 players out there at price points above $700. The company was going through the motions and not adapting to market changes.

In many markets, an upscale product is lucrative. Seems displays are not one of them.
