Speedracer was a good movie that got blasted.

This looks like Freidberg and Seltzer coloaborated with Uwe Boll. This will do absolutely horrible as fans of DBZ will hate it and non-fans will not care.

i would like to hurt the director, producers, script writers, etc. and all of them thats making this movie so crappy(not hurting the actors but everyone else). to be honest i think speed racer would of sold more tickets if it was a tie in with this movie. speed racer= a descent movie considering its a live action movie of a very old show. dragon ball movie= a movie of an anime that started in 1986 in Japan and has been made into an epic fail live action movie just like the previous one from years ago

I'm a big fan of Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z. This is just pure garbage.

This is almost like Dragon Ball GT all over again.

Dragon Ball officially ended in Z. GT was just a product of the big companies that didn't want to make the DB series die due to all the money it made from products in the market. Akira Toriyama didn't want to do GT so he left the project. Here we are seeing it again in a live action movie, UGH! I refuse to go see this movie and yes Chow Yun Fat should be ashamed of himself for starring in it.

no it was a good movie for what it was supposed to be, a fun, family friendly flick with a good message.

very underrated movie IMHO. not saying its The Godfather, but it doesn't deserve to be hammered like it did.

IOW, like "The Avengers" before it, it was a movie you HAD to be in on the 60's cultural-IQ joke to get the slavishly affectionate (if occasionally inferior) replications thereof, or you'd be floundering in confused style-over-substance bewilderment and acting all poo-poo about it...
And if you were too pop-culture deficient to do your homework before screening and the cool-quotient zoomed over your lil' gamer head, Don't Run Crying To Us Smart People.

The same applies to Dragonball (either series), and while this doesn't look perfect, I've seen a dozen ways in which it Could've Been Worse(tm).

Looks bad but the Speed Racer trailer looked bad too and it was surprisingly entertaining. Unfortunately, I doubt this will do the same thing. ( What did they do to Piccolo, he looks awful )

When people say things like this, it really seems that people who have no idea what they're talking about are just jumping on the hate bandwagon.

I think Speedracer is a good analogy. Terrific film in my opinion, but didn't do well at the box office. I expect this movie to be entertaining, but fail at the box office.

It is no more "garbage" in relation to the source material than the film adaptation of Spider-man is "garbage" compared to its source material.

No, it's not. GT was a commercial endeavor, animated based on an original story, unrelated to the source material (i.e. the comic). This is a commercial endeavor based on the original story of the comic, with many plot points condensed into a single story for the sake of fitting into a live action feature film.

No, Dragon Ball did not "officially end in Z"... Dragon Ball ended at the end of Dragon Ball. If you're talking about the anime, GT is as much canon to the anime as any other part of the anime. As far as the comic is concerned however, there is no such thing as Dragon Ball Z-- it was all "Dragon Ball".

Wrong. He was involved with the project in the same way he was involved in the offshoot Dragon Ball Z movies they produced. It was not based on his comic, but he was involved in character design and story writing.

Again, Dragon Ball GT was an original story created for the anime to keep going. This is a live action adaptation of the comic canon.

What didn't you like about it? The fighting? The energy attacks? The silliness of it?

Because all of those things are pretty much entirely right for a live action adaptation of Dragon Ball. There are some changes to aspects, but did Joker killing Thomas and Martha Wayne make 1989's Batman suck? Did the Batmobile being a tank make Batman Begins suck? Did the Joker wearing makeup in The Dark Knight make it suck?

Anyone who is unwilling to give this a chance to be entertaining is just creating a self fulfilling prophecy. This is a cheesy action movie based on a cheesy manga/anime. It will be just as entertaining as any cheesy action flick ever.

Another problem is that a lot of people have incorrect memories of what Dragon Ball or DBZ is. I suggest anyone complaining about how stupid this might look should go check out the source material, because the tone and such seem to be dead on. There are changes to the canon, of course, but this is true of ALL film adaptations, whether they be based on comics, books, games, etc. I honestly cannot think of a single film adaptation which is 100% accurate to the source material.

the wife and I watched the trailer at home since i cant watch here at work. After finishing watching the trailer. She was basically "WTF was that!!!" (She is Japanese and grew up watching it on TV. She even took a pic of her friends doing the fusion pose when she was in High School) She said and I agree, if they wanted to make a bad martial arts movie, why didnt they just make one. Why drag Dragon Ball through the mud?

So you don't find it weird that the majority of the cast is Asian except Goku?

The Joker wearing makeup didn't offend me but if they casted Chow Yun Fat to play the Joker well.....that would be offensive...what do you think?

It's not like the actor playing Goku is an A-List celebrity so for marketing purposes it makes no sense that he was casted to play Goku. Yeah I know I'm with this issue since I brought it up in another Dragonball thread but I felt I had to shoot your argument down regardless of whether you agree or not.
