Default Decade

No fancy title needed, simply put your pick for the greatest decade in film history. What makes that decade the most amazing, important, or just filled to the brim with the most A-list movies it could handle?

My vote, is the 70's. Because when ever I visit a film form the 70's it always feels like the first time I have seen it, even if it's not.

I was just thinking about how bad the 90's seemed for movies. Especially the first half or so of the decade.

Almost impossible to pick. But I'll go with the 80's.

Cool horror:
Evil Dead
Friday The 13th
A Nightmare On Elm St.
The Thing
Re-Animator
Near Dark
Sleepaway Camp

Cool sci-fi:
ST: Wrath Of Kahn
The Empire Strikes Back
Robocop
The Terminator
Blade Runner
Lifeforce
They Live

Cool Action:
Commando
Rambo
Red Dawn
Universal Soldier
Die Hard
Predator
Red Dawn

I can almost guarantee that I'm biased by being in middle/high school in the 80's and sneaking in/going to almost every movie released during this time. Looking back I really should have spent more time studying.

This was my first pick, but it was only because I grew up with it and movies are soooooo much fun!

My vote as well. I grew up during the 80s with all those movies, from convincing the video store clerk to let a little kid rent all those rated R movies, they will always mean more to me then some of the films released today. I can't even talk to some of my coworkers and friends about these movies because they havent even seen them.

It is hard to choose because I love stuff from the 70's, 80's and 90's however if I look at my top 20 of all-time, most of my stuff is from the 00's.

Here's what is in my top 20 from the 00's on.

The Dark Knight
Spider-man 1, 2 & 3
Batman Begins
The Departed
Clerks II
40 Year Old Virgin
The Incredibles
Wall.e
Tropic Thunder
Superbad
Little Miss Sunshine
Sin City

Then 00's wins for you and thats cool, it really is a hard thing to figure out. I like your way though,...Do a top 20 or so and see which decade has the most movies in it. Good job!

Thanks, I have always kept a top 20 list, currently saved on my facebook profile . I figured the best way to find out what your favourite deacde is by going with which decade you have most in your top 20 or whatever.

No a bad argument at all with movie choices like this.

Not enough people watch foreign films. I'd suggest starting with Kurosawa(in bold), he is the most westernized of these directors as he emulated John Ford. The Hidden Fortress was adapted in to a pretty popular title from the seventies, have you heard of Star Wars?

Although it is one year off, my Cinema Studies class just watched "Breathless" (1960) and we were (most of us ) loving it!

Ah, Godard. Let me guess, you talked about jump cuts. The real miracle is Seberg, a career that was almost ruined at the start by Otto Prem!nger's Saint Joan, or Belmondo who was descriped as "hypnotically ugly."
