Considering I don't see how this is against any rules... I don't suggest Closing this Thing Down.
I was watching my Fiance playing Socom Today, and every third word I heard through the voice chat was Homophobic hate and disgusting filth. I did my research and this is what I found. http://current.com/items/89329228/gaymers.htm I think this is a video that all of us should take a look at. With the dawning of Playstation Home, this has become something I see more and more of, it's all just one horrible thing said after another. I can't really type out the things I hear.... they're pretty bad. I also can't type out what I would reply to those people... It's pretty bad too. I must say however, for some reason I have heard less of it on the Playstation Network, and a lot more on Halo... http://giantrealm.gameriot.com/gamin...alo-homophobia This does pertain to gaming, and the Playstation, so I ask you all to be smart about it and think about this issue that does affect us all, and makes man of us look bad. |

Terrible stuff, report the user to SCE and put them on your block list.

I don't really play on the PSN, but I will agree that it fills the Halo lobbies constantly. But I think thats what happens when you give people (of all ages) a mic, no identity, and really no way for them to get in trouble. It sad but it does happen. And forget trying to say something about it to the person doing it, that only escalates things. You can only mute them or report them.

I also think it's a sad side effect of a society that seemingly deems homosexuals as "evil" or second class citizens.
It makes a lot of people think "oh...they're not like ME....who cares what they think, or if their feelings get hurt? They're just "f*gs" Personally I hate when people talk like that, and people who know me know that using racist language and/or homophobic language is a quick ticket out of my house, no doubt. But as has been noted, the internet provides anonymity and along with that you get kids (and adults) who feel braver than they are, and say a lot of things that they'd probably not say otherwise. Also you have to realize that some people view their online persona as completely separate from their real life. I've seen people who are kind and considerate get online and turn into quite literally another person, and say and do things they would normally NEVER do. |

I agree that it is like a cancer... the only problem is that there is currently no Kemo to treat it with.
Hell, I'm not even remotely inclined towards the lifestyle of a homosexual, but I still have the basic human ability to put myself in the shoes of another person who does. From that perspective, these online chat scenarios can escalate quite quickly to a state of "out of control." One day, I even told someone that they were starting to sound like Hitler with the amount of prejudice coming out of his mouth. He laughed and said that he had nothing against Jews, but that maybe Hitler should have sought out and eliminated the "gay gene" instead. He said that maybe the world would have been a better place. I almost wept for the ENTIRE human race at that moment. Ya, that was the point where I said, "Sionara." I couldn't believe that!!! ![]() |

Yup, one day my wife told me to watch her as she got into Home. In less than a minute, someone messaged her..."want to ****?" Ridiculous. She will never get on Home again, and neither will I.

As a female gamer with a woman's voice... and as a gay gamer who isn't afraid to indicate my sexuality in my gamertag/PSN ID (Unique LezBeOwn) I've heard many things you can't even imagine. You just have to realize that the people saying these things are the lowest common denominator and people that you would never socialize with in real life. Mute them and move on is what I do. The best way to avoid this type of thing is to have a well developed friend's list so that you always have people that you know and like to play with.

When you have a social environment with no rules, no moderation, and no consequences, this is the result.

The thing about prejudice is.... we ALL have our own prejudices.... If you say you don't.... you're just lieing to yourself. The difference between an honorable person and a bigot is how you choose to address your personal prejudices. Do you choose to embrace them? Or do you try to recognize them as irrational emotions and try to move beyond them? |
