Default Spiderman 3 pack in (free HDMI) + Price drop!

Sony....are you listening?

I think it would be beneficial going into the holidays to offer a price reduction and also throw a bone to next gen adopters.

I think a good Idea for Holiday 07 would be if ps3 came out with an "Ultimate" bundle for $559.99
Increase the spec to include 80gb's HDD space.
They also need to include a 5 or 6ft. HDMI cable, BD playback remote, 2 controllers and a copy of Spiderman3 Blu-ray disc.

I think the price drop along with the addition of the extra controller,HDMI cable, Blu-ray movie, BD-Remote and inculsion of a larger HDD at 80gb's would be a great value to consumers, and a great lift in sales of their Console. But thats just me...

They could offer the current 60gb model as is for $489.99

What do you guys think?

You must have missed some of the other posts regarding their PS3 costs. Eventhough they are trying to drop costs by $100 which seems quite possible, they will still be losing lots of money on the consoles. Sony is not dumb, they spend a lot of money studying the consumer; they know what we are willing to pay. I doubt Sony will be dropping the price of the 60GB PS3 anytime soon, it would be a foolish move. The $600 price tag for what you get is a steal and evenone who got one knows that. Either way, this holiday season, the PS3 will outsell the Wii and 360, especially being that POTC, Spiderman, and the Matrix will be out on Blu-ray by then. In addition to that, the PS3 will actually have a good game arsenal. If they lower the price by this holiday season, they will suffer from a percieved cheap company image by the consumer. Current owners would be furious and everyone would lose!

This would go far to increase sales, but a price drop de-values the product, and companies don't like to do that. Same reason Apple isn't allowing the iPhone to be subsidized. If they stick by their $600 for at least another holiday season, people will realize the value in the product and purchase. I could see them packing in SM3 and a BD remote though, that would be a good idea.

A price drop is not going to bring in new customers or make your current customers like you more. The PS3 is STILL costing money to SCE.

Adding a bigger HDD is a logical progression as using the same size of HDDs would only increase in cost.

There is no need to add a Spidey 3 pack in. Starting from Summer, SCE and SPHE will ramp up the tie in between the PS3 and BD playback with an ad campaign. It'll build awareness up until the Christmas season.

I think you need to look at my sig, and realize you are barking up the wrong tree. I got my ps3 the 2nd week it came out...I have a stand alone BD player...two 1080p sets and a combined collection of over 120 HD discs...I'm hardly a "Fence sitter" or Joe-six-pack.

But to sit here and think the PS3 is going to outsell the Wii or 360 this holiday without a price reduction is IMO naive.

Yes, the ps3 is a great value as is...TO US!

the average person doesn't see an appreciable difference between ps3 and say the xbox 360. Especially with these Shoddy ports and the 360's same title continually play better on the "Lesser spec".

We can sit here til we are "Blu" in the face arguing all the "Value" of the ps3, but the truth is, it's too expensive to be a success at this point, and unless they either throw in more...or get under $399 In my opinion (an opinion of someone in retail electronics sales for nearly 6yrs.) It's just not going to be the successor to ps1/2.

But hey...I surely hope I'm wrong, as I would love for the ps3 to be a roaring success!

And for the "Spiderman 3 sucked" comment, The box office sales tell a differen't tale.

Spider-Man 3 DID suck....People are only going to see it cause it's spider-man. It's at 61% on Rotten Tomatoes...The first 2 films were in the 90's. Spidey 3 sucks.
