USA 3-D Blu-ray Titles

I went to see "Up" in 3D the other day and I managed to snatch up a few pairs of the 3D glasses that are handed out by the theater. Will these work better than those provided in the package of 3D Blu titles? Also, which titles have have been released in 3D so far? These are the ones I know of:

My Bloody Valentine
Journey To The Center Of The Earth
Coraline (Coming Soon)

sadly the technology used in theaters can only be reproduced on a projector so they use a different 3D technology on the blu-rays which looks MUCH worse, the 3D glasses for Up will not work on any 3D blurays. Also to add to your list of 3D blu rays there is Friday the 13th 3, Jonas Brothers Concert, Hannah Montana Concert, and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Yeah, the tech isn't quite there yet. I see a lot of double lines on my Polar Express. I renter Journey to the Center- and decided to wear my glasses backwards; the 3D looked a lot better but the movie was nearly in black and white.

LOL I tried watching Best of Both Worlds in 3D once, hurt my eyes and my head, put an end to that rather quickly.

What if I watched my blu-ray movies on a projector? Would that make a difference?

Movies shown in the cinema use two images, each firing 24fps. 24fps for the left eye and 24fps for the right. The glasses in the cinema are polarized so each eye can only see one of the images at a time. The human brain mixes the alternating frames, left, right, left, right, to give 48fps of converged image.

Because no Blu-ray player can output two signals, two images are displayed simultaniously, RED and BLUE. The glasses worn for Blu-ray movies have Red and Blue filters for each eye and once again the human brain mixes the two coloured images into one.

In theory they should both give similar results but having two seperate images shown in alternate frames gives far superier result in both convergence and colour reproduction bacause they are not displayed in the same time space.

Three different solutions are being worked on for true 3D in the home to replace the Red and Blue glasses. One of which is the Blu-ray Disc Association.

no. Movies on disks, at least for now, use anaglyph, there is one picture which uses different colour shifts (most blue and red) and glasses with coloured filters, like this .

it works equally well with all displays (well except for B&W TVs, but who has that any more).

Theatres tend to use polarized light and that is why those glasses will not work with the movies mentioned above.

movies that are 3D usually come with glasses since different movies might not use the same colour filters. For an extreme example Hulk used Green/red instead of the more common blue red.

So you can bring back the glasses that you stole, they won't work.

No, blu-rays are formatted at 24fps which is their physical limit and projectors convert this signal to either 50hz or 60hz or if its a modern Projector leave it at 24fps.

There are no 3D projectors currently on sale but there are some 3D monitors which use two outputs from a PC graphics card to display a true 3D image. These monitors run at 120hz, 60hz for each eye. I beleive it won't be long before we see Blu-ray players with the same capability as the PC.

It's definitely not worth seeing 3-D movies at home. If you want to see it at the theaters and see the new technology, that’s well worth it, the stuff at home is basically the same damn thing you saw the last time the industry tried to get home viewers into 3-D

I went with several people and they all gave me their glasses after the movie. The theater did not require them to be returned. A recycle bin was available, but it was optional.

Thank you all for the great responses. I now have a better understanding of how 3D movies work.

I picked up MBV and was expecting to be impressed with my first 3d blu-ray. It was a waste of $ imo. The objects did not jump out at you like they're supposed to be. Maybe in a few more years the technology will be better for @ home viewing. I went to a 3d thing in Disney and you literally were jumping out of your seat to get out of the way of the incoming object. That's how 3d is supposed to be.
