The masses weren't impressed. Rent it at the most and save
$30. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=frozenriver.htm Why Sony Classics released this in blu-ray and not "The Children of Huang Shi" I'll never know. |

It was also a question directed to those who've seen the movie.. And the ones who have gave it an extremely high 86% on Rottentomatoes. And Melissa Leo has been nominated for it. |

the number of tickets they sell. The other Theaters didn't want empty seats. I saw it in one of those 95 theaters. It lasted three days and was pulled. |

Your statement makes no sense whatsoever. Not every film gets a mainstream release. The 86% critical rating at Rotten Tomatoes probably means the film is good. Last edited by Mr. Cinema; 02-09-2009 at 01:57 AM. |

The films that distributors think will sell tickets get a mainstream
release. Evidently, they did not have much faith that "Frozen River" would sell enough tickets for a mainstream release. I doubt if it sells much on blu-ray either at $30. Maybe a few will take a chance on DVD at $20. It was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II at 1080p, but there isn't much there to warrent anything but a DVD rental. |

For an independent film, I enjoyed it a lot and felt it was deserving of every award it has won. It was well-acted and yeah, it was low budget but the fact that the film was shot in the snow and in an Indian reservation and broken down trailer home, truthfully, for a film like this, the grain actually helped enhance the situation of a two women trying to make sure their children survive.
