Default Frozen River..yeah or nay?

First off...just to get it out of the way...I did do a search on this movie in the forums.

There doesnt seem to be much talk about honestly.

It comes out Tuesday. What are the masses views on it?

I just rented it on blu.
Did not watch it yet, but it looks fairly low budget.
I'll post some thoughts when I get around to watching it tomorrow.

Why Sony Classics released this in blu-ray and not
"The Children of Huang Shi" I'll never know.

This one looks very interesting. I will be picking it up.

Since when is box office the mark of good filmmaking?

The talk about this film is for Melissa Leo, nominated for an Academy Award for Actress in a Leading Role.

Considering it's widest release was a puny 95 theaters, I'd say that assessment is unfair.

It was also a question directed to those who've seen the movie..

And the ones who have gave it an extremely high 86% on Rottentomatoes.

And Melissa Leo has been nominated for it.

Unfair or not Movie Theaters make their money by
the number of tickets they sell. The other Theaters
didn't want empty seats. I saw it in one of those
95 theaters. It lasted three days and was pulled.

Uh, the masses didn't see the film because the most theaters it played in was a whopping 96. How much advertising do you think a film gets that plays in less than 100 theaters in the United States? How many people do you think knew this film even came to theaters?

Your statement makes no sense whatsoever. Not every film gets a mainstream release.

The 86% critical rating at Rotten Tomatoes probably means the film is good.

The films that distributors think will sell tickets get a mainstream
release. Evidently, they did not have much faith that "Frozen River"
would sell enough tickets for a mainstream release.

I doubt if it sells much on blu-ray either at $30. Maybe a few will
take a chance on DVD at $20. It was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II
at 1080p, but there isn't much there to warrent anything but a DVD
rental.

For an independent film, I enjoyed it a lot and felt it was deserving of every award it has won. It was well-acted and yeah, it was low budget but the fact that the film was shot in the snow and in an Indian reservation and broken down trailer home, truthfully, for a film like this, the grain actually helped enhance the situation of a two women trying to make sure their children survive.
