Arrow Robert Ludlum's The Matarese Circle to Star Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington!

This is really getting interesting. The movie is being fast tracked for a 2010 release:

Quote:
This project has definitely bumped up a notch in terms of anticipation. Tom Cruise will be joining Denzel Washington
in MGM's adaptation of Robert Ludlum's The Matarese Circle that is being directed by David Cronenberg and written by Wanted scribes Derek Haas and Michael Brandt. That means we get to see all three of them - Cruise, Washington, Cronenberg - working on a big-budget spy thriller in the vein of The Bourne Identity
. Excited yet? Cruise is in final negotiations to take on the role of the Russian spy Vasili Taleniekov, mortal enemy of American CIA operative Brandon Scofield, to be played by Washington.

The Matarese Circle will now be Tom Cruise's next project, before he even starts shooting The Tourist. Production is expected to begin sometime later this year. Novelist Robert Ludlum, also known for his Bourne series of books, drew inspiration from David Rockefeller's Trilateral Commission in the 1970s to write The Matarese Circle. But Haas and Brandt have updated the setting from the Cold War to modern times. It follows the two arch-enemy spies who are forced into a distrustful collaboration against a wide-reaching political conspiracy orchestrated by a mysterious organization called the Matarese.

Default Denzel W. / Tom Cruise - New film?

Cruise & Washington Team For "Circle"
By Garth Franklin Wednesday February 11th 2009 10:22PM (www.darkhorizons.com)

Tom Cruise is in talks to star opposite Denzel Washington in "The Matarese Circle" for MGM Films reports the trades.

David Cronenberg directs this adaptation of the thriller by author Robert Ludlum ("The Bourne Identity"), while Michael Brandt and Derek Haas ("Wanted") adapted the script which contemporizes the original Cold War premise.

The pair will play two bitter enemy spies who, after spending two decades trying to kill one another, find themselves in the crosshairs of the Matarese, a powerful group at the root of a conspiracy.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler will produce. A 2010 release is expected.

Eastern Promises, A History of Violence, Crash -- yea. This could def. be good, and Cruise's "people" would be good to make sure this Does happen. It can only help put his career back on path.

Can't wait to see Denzel's next flick, the remake of "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" with Tony Scott/Directing, and John Travolta in the bad guy role. The poster is here: http://www.joblo.com/excl-pelham-poster

OK - I have never read the book, no nothing about the book and I am sure I will enjoy the movie, but answer me this. Is one of the main characters a Russian or Communist or other enemy of the U.S. spy? If both are U.S. operatives why would they be trying to kill each other in the first place?

Go here for the full info on the movie, the lame 88' TV remake, and mention of the 2009 movie.

True, but he was good with Jack "You Can't HANDLE The TRUTH!!" Nicholson in "A Few Good Men", and though the movie stunk, Robert Duvall in "Days of Thunder". Two pretty good movie Heavyweights there anyway. With Meryl Streep in "Lions For Lambs", which I just saw. Ok movie but his whole role/scene in that movie is with her as a Senator and she plays a 40+ yr newspaper reporter. "Rain Man", Dustin Hoffman. "Color Of Money", Paul Newman.

Lol -- okay, I'm done. But he's obviously done well opposite Plenty of Big Name actors in the past.

Agree with you on all of those but It seem since he jumped around on Oprah's couch he has done anything with any big name stars and director.
