Default Your favorite director ???

Who is your favorite director? Mine is Danny boyle for 28 days later and Sunshine. I think his movies are the best cause they are all really original. I don't think Slumdog Millionaire is his greatest movie though, but it was good.

Ridley Scott, Michael Bay and Quentin Tarantino are also very good imo.

just for future reference, Simon, this type of question would belong in the movies/tv forum, located here:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=63

but to answer your question, mine is james cameron. i've followed his career for a long time and believe him to be one of the finest directors of our time. can't wait for Avatar in December.

Hmm Lucas - for the trilogy
Spielberg for JP, Jaws and SL, Raiders, and SPR
Kubrick- for giving us some great masterpieces.
Peter Jackson- Probably the best director of the decade. He's even bringing us Halo!

WOW What a question especially with the 'new breed' coming through...IE, JJ Abrams, Chris Nolan et al........

Will always have Kubrick, Darabont and Fincher up there!

I don't have a favorite though the directors who I will watch anything they make are: (It doesn't mean everything they make is good or great, but with these guys, I don't even look at the cast or the plot when deciding if I want to see it.)

Francis Ford Coppola - Godfather I & II, The Conversation, Bram Stoker's Dracula

Martin Scorsese - Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Gangs of NY

Howard Hawks - Only Angels Have Wings, His Girl Friday, Ball of Fire, To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep

Alfred Hitchcock - Notorious, Spell Bound, North By Northwest, Suspicion, Rear Window

Billy Wilder - Sunset Boulevard, Double Indeminty, The Apartment

Danny Boyle - Trainspotting, Sunshine, Shallow Grave

Alex Proyas - The Crow, Dark City

Walter Hill - Hard Times, The Warriors

I would have to agree to a certain extent, purley on the fact that a director alone can pull in the crowds, but, if like me you have nearly a thousand dvds and a collection of blu-rays that have a large mix, then there is never a 'favourite'

It all depends on the mood i am in when watching a movie.

Michael Mann is my favorite director, but his movies aren't always my favorite. He has an unbelievable way of making scenes seem very real and his night shots are top notch

Agreed there totally. I do have favorite eras of films (The 1940's and the 1970's) but even that list grows as time passes and a generations of largely good films can be created. Favorite era to me can be an even more subjective question than this one, though it is always fun to make a list.

Robert Aldrich. Attack, What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?, The Grissom Gang, Emperor Of The North Pole, Flight Of The Phoenix, World For Ransom, The Big Knife, Vera Cruz, The Longest Yard, Hustle, The Dirty Dozen, The Killing Of Sister George and Twilight's Last Gleaming is one hell of a record but its surpassed by Kiss Me Deadly, my all time favourite.

Also very fond of Mario Bava and Billy Wilder
