Default Sly Cooper getting an HD remix, why not R&C or J&D??!!

Im glad that a nice series is getting an HD re-release, but why not Ratchet and Clank and/or Jak & Daxter?

Thoughts?!

  • Maybe they are coming
  • Maybe Naughty Dog and Insomniac are too busy to even assist another developer with porting duties
  • Maybe they haven't kept all the necessary materials to release a full PS2 compilation
  • Maybe they're precious of their work and haven't found a development partner that can do the job well
  • Maybe they want to do it themselves, with much greater upgrades when they're ready
etc.

I guess R&C is already well know and played on ps3, so the need for a remaster is not that big. Jak and Daxter would be great though. I guess there is a Sly ps3 on the work right now and they just check if the market is ready for it?

My take on it is maybe it was easier to do the 3D port for SC because of the usage of cel-shading versus the texture-based polygons used for both J&K and R&C? Just a guess anyway

I would love to have a updated verison of J&D. This was one of my favorite series on the PS2.

R&C and J&K seem like they would be ripe for an HD remix and the HD versions wouldn't be that far from the current games.

Cartoonish games should be easy to port.

I just hope Insomniac and Naught Dog are taking note.

Team Ico, too. But at least they've mentioned in interviews that it is something they would like to do.

I'm looking forward to playing these games. For whatever reason, I missed playing them on the PS2.

I would also welcome a HD remix of J&D.

Ditto. Its probably the most educated response i've ever seen. I could probably sue him for plagiarism based solely on the way/format he wrote it in like bullet points and such

If Santa Monica was able to find a way to get it done while God of War 3 was being worked on, I am confident Insomniac and Naughty Dog could make it happen. I do hope they are coming, it seems like it would be easy enough and that the costs would be low enough that the risk would be minimal. Heck they could release them on PSN and not have to worry about disc pressing costs.

HD resolution and widescreen support are a must, but higher rez textures would be a nice bonus.

Merrick is correct.

Just hand off the job of both to High Impact Games.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Impact_Games

How can Naughty Dog or Insomniac not be comfortable with them?????????

I want the Maximo games and the original Devil May Cry completely overhauled.

Then about a 100+ games from the Genesis, SNES, NES era updated with HD sprites and WS support.

I'd really like to see the old Ratchet and Clank games to have a HD release, with the online in 3 and 4 intact.

Same with the Jak series with Jak X's online as well.

Sly Cooper's a different animal from Jak & Daxter or Ratchet & Clank (pun not exactly intended, but there nonetheless).

The "look" of the Sly Cooper games revolves around flat color panes illuminated by lighting and comic-like shading and outlines. This is relatively easy to adapt to HD because there is no extra detail that needs to be added - simply rendering most of the art assets at a higher resolution will make it work pretty much exactly as intended.

Updating a game like one of the Ratchet or Jak games, on the other hand, might involve actually re-creating the textures and some of the models to avoid blurry/muddy objects or low-poly jaggies.

In essence, it takes less work to update Sly Cooper specifically because of the art and rendering style used in the series.

Also note that Sucker Punch is NOT handling the HD port of Sly Cooper. It's being outsourced to Sanzaru. So don't go beating up on Insomniac or Naughty Dog over why they can't spare the manpower to HD-ify your favorites when Sucker Punch has - because Sucker Punch hasn't.
