I'm not explaining myself well. My receiver has a "screw" connector for some speakers, and the connector where you press down, insert wire, and release for other speakers.
What's the difference? Could I not use them interchangeably? |

Here's one of the Sony 720. See the screw-type and clamp-type connections?
Not sure how to post this picture, but if you go to "specifications," then click on "rear layout", you'll see an example: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665361526 My issue: say my current speakers are all clamp-type. The receiver I want is all screw-type. Can I connect them? |

I've had both of those types. The real only different is that the "screw type" hold the wire a lot stronger than the regular lift, insert, release type. They both still get great connections from the wire, granted you striped the wires well

So I could use them interchangeably? In other words, if my old receiver had only the "clamp" method, and a new one has only "screw" method, I can use the same speaker wire for both?

Yeah totally. The wire you have will be fine with any type of connector. But I would use "fresh" wiring, if you know what I mean. Meaning, brand new striped wire, because your other wire's wires will be all spread out and such.

Do you ever use electrical paste to prevent corrosion on these connections as you would do with an electrical panel in your house? The banana plugs allow you to reinsert a connector from time to time effectively renewing the connection, obviously you can reterminate any speaker connection from time to time but what a pain.
