Default Integra DTA-9.4 Amplifier

I was looking through special order pricing at my work, and this one jumped out at me because it seems to be a really good price (a little over half of retail price) for me to get it... just wondering if anyone has any experience with Integra separates? I could also get the Parasound New Classic Model 5125 for about the same price.

That is an old Integra Amp. They go back to about 2004 or 2005. I do not know anything about these. Why are you looking for an amp and what do you want it to do; how many channels, etc.? There are a lot of used fine amps that would be available on Audiogon as an option.

I got my integra through a similar deal, and I love it. That said, I like integra for their converters, and for being right on the cusp of the new technology, not necessarily for their great amplifiers. I am pretty sure we put one of these in on one of our jobs, but I don't remember listening to it.
I'm sure its a good amp, I hope my limited knowledge helps you some.

Just an FYI, although the amp does go back to 2004 (hence the .4 in the name) it is still a current model, since there aren't any new codecs to contend with an amp

I want a 7 channel amp, but I can deal with a 5 channel (and still use the powered outputs on the 705 for the surround backs) but theres a pretty good chance that it'll be 4-8 months before I get around to buying one... basically I want to use the 705 for a pre-amp... the system is gonna be Klipsch RF-35 towers in the front, RC-35 center, RF-62 towers for surrounds, and RS-42 surrounds for the back speakers

If you like those speakers, the Integra amp would be a good match for them. We use Integra receivers pretty much exclusively at my work and we're pretty happy with them. I think it would be better to have all speakers on the same amp, of course the surround back speakers aren't critical. It's up to you.

well that was my thought... i mean the surround backs are minor so it won't be the end of the world.... you dont think the parasound would be a good match?

Sorry I hadn't really looked at the Parasound, I haven't worked with them. I did look at the specs, I tend to look at the THD first, and the Parasound amp is pretty good there compared to the Integra on that, so I dunno. Like I said, I like Integra a lot and I support them but ultimately its up to you. I know you are looking for someone to just tell you what to get, but I can't really do that.

lol... thats not what I'm looking for at all... I'm looking for opinions, its just the way you phrased it I thought maybe the parasound had a bit of a sound that wouldnt fit the klipsch well or something

I would suggest that you keep your eyes open to Audiogon ads by makers including Aragon, Proceed (the former less expensive cost Mark Levinson line), and Krell if they are in your budget. These are or were some of the big names in the high end market. They will probably be better constructed and sound better than most of the amps that you may consider including Emo and Outlaw.
