Default Torch Mode Stories

All too often I go to someone's house and they have the TV set to vivid mode. It just baffles me how people can watch anything with the TV set like that! I know most of us (if not all) are advocates for calibrating your own set, but lets hear about a bad experience you had at a friend's with torch mode!

I was over at a female friend's house, she has an HD CRT and I was gonna put a movie on. I turned the TV on and it actually was hard on the eyes. I let her know what I was doing and spent a good 15-20 minutes setting the TV up properly so we could watch something (she had to do laundry anyways) But it was just so bad... like I see Vivid mode all day at work... unfortunately we just leave the TVs on the default so people who don't tweak their settings will know what they're getting... but this was way worse... I guess I'm just used to a TV that isn't acting as illumination in my room but still!
