Default What's up with Red vs. Blue?

I was sitting at work and realized, a lot of things use Red vs. Blue, and I was wondering why?

Cola Wars:
Coke (Red) vs. Pepsi (Blue)

Hi-Def War:
HD-DVD (Red) vs. Blu-ray (Blue)

Temperature
Hot (Red) vs. Cold (Blue)

Politics
Republican (Red) vs. Democrat (Blue)

There seems to be no common thread in the winners as Red is winning the Cola wars, but Blu-ray won the Hi-def wars.

Anybody else notice any Red vs. Blue instances? Is this a pervasive pattern? What is it about these two colors that people identify with and use it in a marketing fashion?

Both red and blue are primary colors. Maybe that could help explain the way they are used to identify some primary things in society.

I have heard about this before... esp in sports where teams usually choose blue or red for their colors.

And what is interesting... red normally wins and dominates because of the nature of the color red... but not always as we know... HD DVD lost and so did the Phillies and Braves in 92 and 1993 World Series to the Blue Jays LOL

Blue is typically a more laid back color, where red is more aggresive. haha

Kind of neat!

In Canada it is:

Blue: Conservatives (right of center)
Red: Liberals (left of center)

It is rather odd it's the other way around in the US. I wouldn't have thought the GOP would accept being labelled as the red party.

I agree on the primary color thing

Of the 3 primary colors, red and blue stand out (more than yellow - hard to see at times)

So it would make sense that Red and Blue are used so prominantly.

But it probably has something to do with dyes and fabric coloring and red and blue were probably the easiest/cheapest to make back in ye olden days

And UB40's reggae hit Red Red Wine.
Yet the Blues is the basis of all Rock & Roll.
But I will stop at XBox RROD.

Well, the red Phillies triumphed over the "blue Rays" this year, so all is right in the universe again!
