Default Josh's Garage Setup

I'm 20 years old and currently live at home and go to school full time, so everything has to be done on a tight budget. I need to do alot of little things, such as wire management, repaint my cinder blocks and some more measuring to get everything straight and aligned but it's a ongoing process that I truly love.

As of November 4 of 2007 I had a 27" Magnavox tube TV, Xbox, PS2 and about 30 SD DVD's. Then I bought my Xbox 360, Toshiba HD A3 and a old 52" RCA Rear Projection CRT, I played with that TV for about a month and then realized I wanted some sort of HTiB so I bought the Onkyo HT-SR800 and fell in love with everything HT related.

I then bought a 42" LG plasma but had some issues with it and sold it for my current 42lg30 which is only 720p but I got a great deal on it and all the calibration options are awesome for someone who likes to play around with all the settings. In June I bought my PS3 and a Onkyo 606 receiver and I currently own 60 BD's 96 HD DVD's and about 100 SD DVD's.

(Oldest) 52" RCA setup

That's what I'm saving for at the moment, however I plan on moving out after the Spring Semester so I'm not sure how quickly I will have the cash for new speakers.

Love the speaker stands... So urban... fit the "garage" scene to a T.

But seriously, nice setup.

Let's hear it for us college kids! Making the older guys around here wonder how the heck we have such setups when all they had at that age were a few pennies in their pocket, Cool stuff in the room, though.

Any suggestions I would make would be more for to get better sound out of what you have - toe your front two speakers a little more inwards. And as for your pair of rears, spread them out, and again - point them towards where you sit. Better soundfield!

Thanks JJ, I didn't take a picture of it but my rears have changed from what you see in the 1st picture. They are spread out about 8 feet and aimed in towards the listening area.

Any suggestions for cheaper towers? If I can get some new fronts and center I will move the Onkyo bookshelfs to the side surrounds and I think I will be happy for a little bit.

Shoot me a price, Josh - then I can see what I can do for you as far as towers go.

Guys I wanted to bump this thread b/c I made a couple changes yesterday. I found an Amazing deal on the SSF-5000's that I couldn't pass up on. ($75 for the pair)

I also redone the wiring to make it alot cleaner imo, there is still more that could be done to clean it up but I'm really happy with it. I also added new pictures of my seating and all surrounds.

Remember this is also my bedroom, so all the clothes and stuff behind the couch is a mess

Any other suggestions or comments are appreciated.

Another bump, I cleaned out the gallery and moved a few things in my room, I swear this is a never-ending process. I always want to move something or add something and I'm never satisfied

Anyway, I spread the fronts out a little more and now I have to redo some wire management at some point, but this semester is kicking my ass so I'm not really concerned with it right now. I'm off until Monday, so I plan on doing nothing but enjoying everything and relaxing for the first time this semester

Yea, it was a rather large jump. They aren't great speakers but for the price they are awesome. The first scene I checked out was the semi-truck scene in the Dark Knight and omg, it was so much clearer just sounded more open.

After buying the speakers and playing with them for a few days, I decided to purchase a SPL meter from Radioshack and that made a huge difference in the whole setup.

So yea, I noticed a difference and would recommend the whole Sony SSF series to anyone on a budget that wants to get away from HTiB bookshelfs.
