Default onkyo 606, 706, or 806?

i was wondering what the differences are between them and if its worth the price? the 606 was on amazon for $450 and the 806 was $617. also wondering if buying online was safe cause its alot cheaper than any store around here. the 806 was $899 here.

I was about to post this question too!! I am currently looking to upgrade my receiver and am having trouble seeing a big difference. I hope some members here can make the differences obvious. It's hard to sit there in the store or even on Amazon and read through all the mumbo jumbo to get to the main differences. And I am an Onkyo fan so thats the way I wanna go this next upgrade.

It depends on how many units you are planning on connecting to the receiver, the size of your room, your budget, etc. There are a ton of factors that play into which you choose.

well i have a ps3 i use as my bluray player, an xbox 360 elite i game on, a wii collecting dust, and my cable box. i would like to have at least 3 hdmi inputs, which all those receivers have, but i didnt know what the other differences were besides more inputs. i figure with the 806 i wouldnt have to upgrade for a while and its in my budget if i buy it online, but i wasnt sure of the risks of buying receivers or speakers online, such as warranties.

Default 706

I just picked up the 706 from circuit city for 590 total. this model is thx certified and is a good buy for the price. The 806 delivers more watts and has a nicer look to it. i sort of regret not buying the 806 but i'm very happy with my 706. the 606 is very similar to the 706 but it's not thx certified. stay away from the 506 imo.

onkyo has a good warranty, 2 years parts and labor, you would have to send it to the manufacturer if need be. here's hoping that we wont ever have to go there.

thanks for the help, i think im going to go with the 806 i found on amazon. any ideas for some good speakers to go with it? i was looking at the klipsch wf34 for fronts wc24 for center. i need something a bit smaller for the back so i can mount them i dont have alot of room maybe a 10x20 at most. basically i was wondering if klipsch is worth the price? oh and a good sub too. my budget is around $1500 for speakers.

You can find some great stuff for that price. I'd suggest Paradigm.

Same here, bought my 706 Friday from Circuit City.

I could have found it cheaper online, but I do not like to order large items online. My UPS / FedEx delivery guy like to throw the boxes and not even ring the doorbell or knock...I hate ordering online

Not bad for those who want to take it home the same night... It will be about $650ish with tax I guess... Pay the extra 40 bucks to have it the same night or save 40 and have it shipped by Amazon. I used Free Shipping option and still got it in 2 days... =]

I hope the CC by me has them for that price now. They were WAY more last month when I looked. The 606 was $500 & the 806 was $900!!!! F that! I'd pick up some 606's for $300 each for family & friends.

At my CC yesterday, I was considering getting the 506 for $188. I can't remember what the 606 was, but I did notice that they had several of both models in stock.
I guess I might be better off just waiting until I can afford the 606. That seems to be the prevailing opinion.
