I don't usually create threads just to complain, but this is just something that I have to complain about. A few companies, namely MGM and Universal, have been forcibly including a DVD edition with their BDs in some form for some time now, whether as a separate disc or a "flipper". However, what upsets me most is that many times, these studios neglect to port the extra features over to the Blu-ray, especially the audio commentaries. At a stretch, I might understand that since the video extras for catalogue titles are in 480i/p, that they don't "need" to be on the Blu-ray, but the audio commentary? the feature designed to be shown with the film? That's just ludicrous. If I'm buying a Blu-ray edition, I obviously want the best presentation of the film, but now, in order to use the extra designed to be viewed with the film itself, I have to use the inferior DVD medium? Certainly for these catalogue titles, you have room for one more lossy 2.0 commentary track, even on a BD-25?!
I don't own any of these titles and I refuse to purchase any if they are released with glaring faults. I consider the omission of Audio Commentaries to be outrageous, and really, it's high time that all of the extras--whether SD or not--get ported over to the Blu-ray. |
