Default Recommend on speakers or should I go HTiB

I recently made a thread about wanting to upgrade my system and what reciever I should pick up. At that point I really didnt know what I wanted to do because I have some what I think are some pretty nice jbl HLS620 floor standing speakers that I wanted to use but I was informed that I would need to find a matching center which would be pretty hard because these are some old speakers and that piecing together a setup would require a lot more effort and money than I first thought. But anyways now I'm going to completely honesty and am leaning towards a HTiB. I know what all you guys think about them and I know that this is wrong place to post this but no one uses the HTiB part of the forum. So forgive me we are my questions and list of answers to questions you may be asking me.

Here's what HTiB I am looking about buying later this year when get the findings unless someone has other opinions or suggestions is the Onkyo HT-S9400THX amazon has it for 775

First off is this system good? Is it worth that price tag?

The room I plan on setting this up in a 10Wx30L but I only plan on setting up this in the one side making it so I only have to fill a about a 10x10 or so space. Will this be system be good enough for the needs?

I plan on doing mostly gaming on a lot of games including battle field 4.So I don't really want any pass through lag. Will this be an issue?

Another question I would like to add is that my tv is 240hz will pass through effect that?

Again I plan on using this set up for mostly gaming but I will also be using it for movies and the occasional music session. So I want my sound to sound very full and not hallow. Will this system provide that for me in the environment I plan on using it?

Any feedback would be great and I do know that I will hear a lot of the "piece it together yourself it will be better" I'm very new to audio and don't understand to much so any help there as well would be nice if you do have other feed back.

Again I know this isn't the right place to post this but I know HTiB is dead 90 percent of the time. Feel free to delete if you want want

This is exactly the right forum to post your inquiry for speaker recommendations for purchasing.

In my opinion if you like the JBLs and then you should use the JBLs. If you are debating on getting an HTiB and using the JBLs, use the JBLs. Sorry to be repetitive. You can get a center that can mirror some of the attributes of your jbl. Honestly the advantages of having real floorstanding speakers outweigh the HTiB speakers that are timbre matched. I bet a Klipsch center channel and some Klipsch surrounds would sound pretty close.

Do you have a surround sound receiver?

I'd rather have stereo sound through a decent pair of flootstanders than surround through a HTIB any day. I've had the HTIB systems and they're great for what they are, but I would recommend staying with the flootstanders.

I do not know. It's some old Sony deal. I have some old Sony book shells hooked up to it but they seem to not get any power and I don't if that's the speakers themselves or my reciever?

And to the other chap saying that he has owned a HTiB. Even the one I'm talking about that's THX certified. Wouldn't be any good?

The Sony's are strange; they have a real nice sound, until the volume reaches a certain point, and then they get all scratchy and nasty. I have a couple of them (both center speakers, not HTIB) and use them now in a bedroom with a small receiver. Warm and full, at the volume I run them at.

My brother has an HTIB setup from them, about five years old, and they're pretty nice. But I agree with the others here - get a pair of good floorstanders, build from there as funds allow. Don't even worry about a sub, for now. You'll probably be more satisfied, in the long run.

These are relative terms. If you have a HTiB it can be really great but typically even fairly nice ones have there limits just due to cost vs profit. THX is a decent starting point but you will find it is mostly marketing. Some THX stuff is amazing some is ok. My first surround sound setup was really cheap. Cheaper than what you are looking at by far.

So what you say about the HTiB I mentioned. As a HTiB?

Would that be worth the money because I really don't want go through the trouble of a matching center. While the JBLs sound pretty good they are rather old probably coming up on 15 years. So would it be smart to build a system around those?

A HTiB are decent for listening to lossy Dolby Digital and DTS, and other 2-4 channel sources, but a HTiB is not good enough for lossless audio.

The HTiB you're looking at IS one of the best systems in that range:

http://www.soundandvision.com/conten...me-theater-box

It is more than adequate for your needs and actually may be overkill for a 10x10 space. You could step down to a lower model if you wanted to save a few bucks, but 7.1 on Blu ray movies is awesome.
If I were looking, this system would definitely be on my short list.

While I'm not a fan of HTiB's, I fully agree with Scarriere on this. To me, this package should be considered a "bundle" and NOT a HTiB. The reason I say that is because the AVR has standard speaker binding posts (except for Zone 2) and makes it possible to upgrade easily. Most HTiB's have proprietary speaker connections, which is what you want to avoid.

I think for a bedroom this system would be more than adequate.

The receiver that comes with that HTiB can be purchased at Accessories4Less for $270. To me the question for you is whether or not you can get better speakers than the Onkyos for the remaining $500 and I think you can.

You might want to also consider just doing 5.1. I'm not sure exactly how your room is set up, but its usually very difficult to properly set up 7.1.

Like I said I don't really plan on use the whole space of the and I will be in a coner having 3 wall around with one and will be open. Behind the couch. I plane on mounting the the left and right surround to all that will be about 5 feet a piece from the center then planing on ceiling mounting and having the other to back ones angled down towards the sofa. Just so I don't have to deal with stands.

Zone 2 gives you the ability to play a second source signal to a separate set of speakers for another room or outdoors. Most of the cheaper receivers only allow analog audio through them, meaning you couldnt play a digital (think hdmi) source through it.

So zone would only concer me if I want to run audio into another room? And this reciever can not do that? Well hey I didn't even know they made such a thing and I would plan on doing so this reciever not having it is no problem to me.
