So it's quite simple...
I have my LCD TV hooked on the PS3 in the living room. But sometimes my Wife is watching a show and i'd like to play some Street Fighter IV ![]() I have a Samsung 2253lw as a PC monitor, i'd like to connect it to my PS3, using like a switch or something. I don't want to deconnect/connect cables everytime... Also in the sound area i'm kind of lost... Can anyone help me on this lil problem!? THX! ![]() |

That's a tough one. You could use an approach of using an HDMI switch setup in the opposite direction than usual... but there are snags.
First of all, that monitor doesn't have HDMI input. It only has DVI. So you'd have to deal with that conversion right off the bat. And then you've still got nothing for sound at all. You'd need to buy an additional sound system... like one of those cheaper PC desktop ones. You could make use of the alternate A/V outputs on the PS3... Hmmm... I can think of ways to make what you're describing work. But they would all require purchasing of various adapters, switches, and a second cheap sound system. It would be expensive and time consuming to setup, and would be cumbersome to switch between the two each time. I think what you're really describing is the need for a second PS3 in your home. |

It's something like this though. The video isn't actually much of a problem. You can hook up an HDMI switch to switch between connecting your PS3 to your TV and monitor. You'll need an HDMI -> DVI adapter as well. Your monitor is supposed to be able to do HDCP so protected content shouldn't be a problem. Your real problem is audio... depending. If your receiver is getting audio through HDMI... well, your second sound system is probably optical. Or maybe even RCA. So you can hook the PS3 up to both sides at once since it has connectors for all of the above, but you'll have to change the system setup in your PS3 (via the wizard thing) every time you want to switch. I'm pretty sure the PS3 won't play audio over all of its connectors simultaneously. Now if, say, both sound systems are using optical, you can use a switch for that. And that's be easier. Still, in total... you're looking at a pretty cumbersome system. By the time you put all these components together, you may have spent a quarter or half of just buying another PS3 for a bunch of switches and cables and junk. |
