What is the difference between 1080p and 1080i the hertz?

1080i displays half the picture at a time. 540 odd lines followed by 540 even lines - just like SDTV. This happens so fast the eye can not discern it.

1080p displays all 1080 lines at once. This requires twice the bandwidth and thus is not transmitted as such. Bluray can do this because it can support the bandwidth, but the TV has to support it too.
