After rumors emerged that Microsoft was considering supporting Blu ray in the future, the company has put their foot down and stated that they have "absolutely no plans" to support any format besides HD DVD.

FUD I tell you. In fact, they do support Blu-ray Disc. They provide the VC-1 codec. If they really supported HD DVD, it could've been an exclusivity for HD DVD, but M$ is weird and corrupt so...

It doesn't mean anything.

Yep.

Gotta wonder, if they really do support HD-DVD, why didn't they slap it in the 360 Elite? hmmmmmmm.....

They don't support HD-DVD, they just don't like Blu-ray because it's from Sony, and it's on the rival to their game system. They said they didn't put it in the elite because it "wasn't a proven format." They just don't want Sony winning.

Windows Vista autoplay options include a Blu-ray option.

They have to somewhat support it. All this announcement means is that they are putting out the fires that started when it was suggested that they would have a BD add-on for the 360.

MS is not stupid. They will eventually go where the money is. The numbers show that BD is outselling HDDVD. but HDDVD is doing good enough to hold its own which is why there is still no winner in the format war.

Why was the title of my thread changed? I felt the old title, which was something like "Microsoft: We will never support Bluray" was better.
