Default Forumla 1 Championship Edition...worth $40

Thinking of getting the old F1 game. Big IndyCar fan, but I don't think anyone has anything coming along those lines, and I can't find much info on a new F1 game. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, it's worth $40, but you should be able to find it used for much less.

F1 is amazing. It's a very addictive game. Here's the problem. When you're doing the career mode, it takes freakin' forever to get to the race. To get your car finely tuned for the race, you have to go out in practice and take a couple laps with each setting. You can skip over some of it, but a lot of it you still have to do if you don't want to start in the back of the pack.

Let me warn you, it didn't sound like that much of a big deal. Being an open-wheel race fan all my life, I was pretty gung ho about it. Thought it would be a fun challenge that would give me a sense of satisfaction. But then I found out it took like 3 hours to get through one weekend. And you can't just start the weekend and not finish. If you don't finish or want to restart, you have to completely start over.

And here come the child in me. IndyCar's are lame. Tony George ruined the entertaining league with money.

Yeah it is a good game I have been playing it pretty solidly for two weeks since I picked it up. I paid $20 for it on eBay so shop around

It's a very good game... _IF_ you are hardcore. It's definitely not designed for anything resembling the casual gamer. Which is why it doesn't receive much recognition or notice.

If you are into the niche the game was designed for, it is a rock solid hit. The physics are good. The graphics are good. There are a lot of realistic elements to it. The people that made this game are clearly into it in a big way.

Seriously. You feel good if you make it into the top 10 in this game.

No punches are pulled. No casual gamer is spared. This is open wheel racing.

Which means I don't have to listen to screaming knobheads all the time, that's not a bad thing.

Thought it was an excellent game overall, presentation (menus and such) is a bit dull, but the graphics and handling when racing is top notch. You have to make sure you turn off the assists too, makes it much better and you can knock 4-5 seconds easily off lap times.

As for setting up the car, I found a basic setup that I liked and used it for every race, didn't bother with practicing at all, and just a few qualifying laps to get me to the front of the grid. Can easily do a race weekend in under 30 minutes (unless you go for full race distance obviously ).

I like the realistic factor added with the damages option; however, it is VERY annoying when you spend 3+ hours tuning/practicing and then some rookie driver knocks you out of the race on the first lap. Maybe I shouldn't turn on damage in season mode.

That's racing though.

To me, if you turn that kind of thing off... or just don't have it at all (like most games do)... that removes a lot of the spirit of racing. That's part of the real deal... you're event can end in disappointment at any moment because of just one mistake. Dealing with this changes the way you drive quite a bit.
