Default Will we ever see older TV shows make it to Blu-ray?

I have a list of shows I'd love to see on Blu-ray; The Sopranos, Bonanza, Lois & Clark and a few others.

Do you think they will ever begin releasing shows like these that are older onto Blu-ray or do you think it will be too expensive for them to make the effort?

I doubt it for Bonanza and Lois & Clark, but maybe for The Sopranos.

Pretty much any show made between a certain period of time, say the early 1970s through the early 2000s, is in a SD blackhole because most series were either shot or edited on videotape. Lois & Clark has been running in upscaled HD in its most recent run on cable, meaning that Warner has not bothered trying to master it for HD syndication.

"Jack Horner" was right about videotape. Ha ha.

It's sad too, a real classic like The Rockford Files or M.A.S.H. deserved better.

They already have Sopranos S1 and S6 but what's mind boggling is why nothing in between ? I would love to see something like Sanford and Son on Blu but I doubt it would ever happen.

I'm hoping for the entire series to be released as a set. But, yeah, those older shows are gems and they would look marvelous.

It's always possible that older shows might come out on blu-ray. Look at Star Trek The Next Generation. Just bought the 3rd season a couple days ago and it looks fantastic on blu-ray.

I wish Seinfield would be released on blu-ray. Love watching the HD reruns on TBS, but would rather have the unedited & commercial free version on bd. Unfortunately, Sony owns Seinfield and with the way they treat their catalog titles, it will probably be released on the 5th of never. Boo Sony!

I want to see Buffy, Angel, Charmed, The 10th Kingdom, Beastmaster, Merlin (long made-for-TV mini-series/movie with Sam Neill and Helena Bonham Carter), Dune (2000), and Children of Dune (2003) make it to Blu-ray here in the U.S.

Children of Dune already made it to Blu-ray but all versions are very much not U.S. friendly.

Not very old, but I'd like to see The Shield on Blu-ray.

When you consider that even many new TV shows are not coming out on blu-ray, and transferring an old show to HD would be orders of magnitude more expensive and time-consuming, I wouldn't get too hopeful.

Angel has been showing in HD from some streaming services, so that one will probably wind up on Blu-ray eventually, especially given Whedon's fans. Buffy would probably be harder to bring to Blu-ray since it's older. No idea on the difficulties around Charmed/Beastmaster or made-for-TV movies/mini-series.

I'm surprised law and order hasn't made it to blu ray. My mom loves the hell out of that show.

I think we're much more likely to see older shows find their way to services like Netflix. Not sure when the cutoff date would be. I'm skeptical of shows like The Sopranos making it to Blu-ray.
