Default Blu ray decision help

hope I am not posting in the wrong section, but I am new to this. I have a 52 inch LCD Samsung 650 and I need to make a decision about two Blu Ray players I have that I must take 1 back Monday. I have a Sony BD-P S350 and a Samsung BD-P 1500.

We think the Sony has it, but some more help is always appreciated.
Sony: quiet, quick, has a fan (though it never came on that I noticed)runs cool to the touch, pic is good, small, netflix not likely to be used by us.
QUESTIONS:
1. Should I do the upgrade to .015?? Does it fix any firmware issues? Or is just for netflix?

2. How would this player do for playing CD's? Will it play music as well, or better than a unit made for playing CD's only?? ( I have to buy the AVR when I can $$$ ha ha

Samsung a bit noisy when loading disc, slower to do it's thing, runs hot on the bottom( I put spacer under each corner to give more air space under it) annoying bous view on screen prompt in upper right corner of screen watching borrowed copy of Death Race. I could get it go away (I THINK), but it seemed to reappear)
CD sound seemed louder, but the Sony had more presence though a bit quieter or lower volume. We tested sound using Logitec Z2300( 2 small speakers and a sub) ( I know I need a AVR, but I have to win the lottery)
QUESTIONS
1. Should I do the upgrade? Does it fix any firmware issues? Or is just for netflix?

Did a lot of blu ray and cd flipping.....hard to keep track of differece by time switched and re loaded.

Any help would be appreciated. new at this stuff
THANKS ron3033

You should always do firmware upgrades. Most times it expands compatibility for different movies and fixes issues.

The Sony is one of the favorites on this site. A lot of folks seem to not like the Samsung, due to the issues you've noticed. Personally, if it was me I'd take back the Samsung. I will say that I have not personally owned either of these players.

I don't own either of them as well..... but plan to get a stand-alone player (have two PS3s but don't own any games...) for my movie-room, and although I've looked at many of the higher end players available.... I can't find a reason to buy anything other than the Sony you're currently looking at.

I use a dedicated DVD player, SACD player, and CD player...... so as far as CD play-back, neither of the units is "ideal" but for many people, there is no noticeable difference in playback for CDs, so if you get serious about stereo sound, you'll want to invest in a dedicated CD player....... until then, either one will play your CDs just fine.

I'd ditch the Samsung, simply because their customer service is terrible. If anything goes wrong with the Samsung unit, have fun with contacting the service dept. I'm not familiar with Sony's service, though.
