I don't have this unit, but I think you want to connect your speakers to surround left and right if you have a 5.1 setup - you would use surround back only if you had a 7.1 system.

Make sure you have the sub cable in the right connection. There is a sub connection for the multi analog in, and one for the sub pre out. Make sure it is in the sub pre out.

Also, make sure you turn the subwoofer on in the receiver settings (speaker size/distance, subwoofer yes/no). Other than this, don't know.

1-If you hooked up to the right purple input on the pre out section, then you are right.
2-Try another RCA plug cable(like coaxial digital). May be the wire is broken or the connestor is loose.
3-You can manually set the speakers. Set to manual in the receiver menu. Good luck.

Make sure your sub is set to ON, not auto. Have the gain at 50-75% and the crossover dial all the way up. Make sure you've hooked it up to the sub out on the receiver and proper sub input on your sub- there may be a connector out for daisy-chaining subs.

Having it on Auto sometimes will not allow it to detect properly.
