People who don't have an HD DVD player can't use an HD DVD.

Transformers is not worth buying an HD DVD player for.

Buying into a new movie format like Blu-ray or HD DVD is no different than say the console business. At the end of the day chances are there will be people out there who's tipping point into buying a system will be one particular item they want. A good example of this is with the Metal Gear Solid games or the Final Fantasy series or Halo or for me personally way back in the day it was Golden Eye for the N64. I've got no real quarms with people saying they want to go into HD DVD because of one film. Ironically for myself is that it would have been Die Hard 4.0 and the Simpsons Movie..but we all know where they're already heading.. It's all in the eye of the beholder.. one mans wine is another mans poison and films are no different. Never seen a film that you were "recommended" by a "friend" and thought it was the biggest pile of $h!te you've ever seen..then you ain't seen Ghost Ship..

Looking ominously ahead I'd say there's a 50-50 chance that Iron Man or Indiana Jones 4 are going to tempt the hell out of me next year but until then I'll be moody blu..

"But... but... you could get a combo for $10-15 more than the regular DVD release?!!!11i1eleven!"

And unfortunately, there are HDDVD toolbags who cite such nonsense that actually seem to believe it.

Cool

I wonder what blu-ray release(s) will hit the same day to combat Transformers?

EDIT: Is this date correct? Its like a Saturday. A little unusual for a release day. Blu-ray has a great selection of titles on the 9th and the 16th from what I saw. At least a half dozen titles I would buy instead of Transformers.

Pretty sure its the 16th.

As for buying HD DVD for this movie. NO movie is worth the cost of a HD DVD player, addon to 360 or not. $180 is a lot of cash to drop to watch 1 movie!

Plus the 360 add-on will only do 1080p via VGA, unless you've got an Elite, and therefore doesn't support any kind of lossless or uncompressed (oh yeah, HD DVD doesn't do that either) audio. Oh dang, but Transformers doesn't have that anyway! Man, sign me up for this!

Why is this in the Blu-ray forum?

I *might* rent it via netflix on DVD. HD-DVD will never get any of my money after the crap they have done to next gen HD disc format's future.
