Default WB Remaking "The Neverending Story"

Quote:
Warner Bros. and a pair of top-tier production companies are in the early stages of a remake of the 1980s children's fantasy classic The NeverEnding Story, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Kennedy/Marshall Co. (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Leonardo DiCaprio's company Appian Way are in discussions with Warner Bros. about reviving the 25-year-old franchise with a modern spin. The studio recently acquired rights to the property, clearing the way for a potential remake.

Born out of a German-language novel by Michael Ende, the film centers on a boy named Bastian Balthazar Bux who discovers a parallel world in a book titled "The NeverEnding Story." As the boy, a loner, delves deeper into the book, he increasingly finds his life intertwined with the plot of the novel, in which a hero in the land of Fantasia must save the universe on behalf of an empress.

Those familiar with the project emphasize that it is in its early stages and that writers have not been attached.

Just another typical Hollywood morning of remakes

I'll pass on this one. I didn't like that series, but it'll be interesting who they cast.

It's a formula. Remakes and make films of what works. Doing this there is a better chance to maximize profits and cut losses. They don't have to take chances on unproven story ideas.

It must be said.

Why can't they bring back or remake good shows like B.J. And the bear ? Now, there's a concept I can't get enough of; a man and his monkey.

The original is one of my favorites. Typically I do not like remakes. However, we would not have had Charlton Heston driving his chariot to victory. Ben Hur was a remake. Soooo, they can be better than the original. This one,, will have to wait and see. I like Falkor just as he is.

Why can't Hollywood make originals anymore? Some things are just sacred. What's next? Godfather Trilogy remake?

It is clear that the film "industry" is running out of ideas in a big way. Remakes, Sequels, etc are Zzzzzzzzz...putting me to sleep. I believe this is why "crazy, anything goes" movies are doing so good IMO. People are tired of the same old same old,....but yet the flocks of people still migrate. This is why I love Blu-ray, best bang for your buck, YOUR WAY/YOU CHOOSE.

I liked the original. Why can't they just reimagine the movie as a game instead?

After a great first movie, two crappy sequels and a bad tv series lets re-image it. Well the re-images are making money like comic book movies. Hollywood has always did remakes. How many people realize that the Wizard of Oz is actually a remake? I have gone tired of *****ing about them so this what I do. if it looks good I will see it, if not I will pass. i have far more complicated things to wotrry about in life.

With chimps in the news, they could have B.J. attacked by the Bear and call it Hostel 3 .

Too right you are. They probably don't remake bad movies because from a marketing perspective it's more difficult to get people to watch a movie they originally didn't like, or thought wasn't very good.... It would cost them more. Just my $.02

Sheesh, if I was a young director in Hollywood I would at least try to make my own vision and not jump on the remake bandwagon...
