Mine is the US remake of Shutter. The death scenes were tame and one in particular was also incredibly stupid. There was not a single moment in the film that came close to scaring me. I was just bored the whole time.
In an apparent quest to make their movie as generic as possible, they took a ghost story from Thailand, got rid of most of the scary scenes, added bad CGI effects, replaced the death scenes with either mentions that someone died or dumber new scenes, hired the least creepy woman possible to play the ghost, and set it in Japan. Then they hired a Japanese director (Masayuki Ochai, director of the J-Horror Kansen, which I quite liked), forced him to shoot a PG-13 film (Kansen was a VERY well deserved R), and by the looks of things barely let him do any actual directing. |
