Default 3D isn't playing here?

Companies putting a lot of money on the whole 3D thing, I checked out what's playing in my town (and a few other towns), and none of them were playing a 3D movie at all. Even that new pervy Rabbit movie called Hop, not in 3D. The last 3D movie I watched was Mars Needs Moms. Looks like things are gonna get quiet for 3D. Anyone have 3D movies playing near them?

The closest theater to me is some small theater inside a store that only shows 3 movies at a time. It does play 3D, but the screen is not of good quality at all. I've seen Toy Story 3, The Green Hornet, Legend of the Guardians, and Tron Legacy in 3D there and was not impressed with any of them. However, when I do go see 3D films at the larger theaters that are farther away, it's a much better experience. Check to see if any theaters that are further from you play 3D films.

My local theater plays about 2 3D movies at a time.

Thing is, the closest theater to me is about 15 minutes away, but an extra 20 minutes would give me 13 more choices, bigger screens, and better 3D quality.

3D means digital projection, and you've got to go to the shopping-mall chains to get that--The mom-and-pop theaters aren't around anymore.
Only theater within ten miles is the mall 'plex, and they're respectably stocked for 3D...Had to expand to two 3D screens to handle the glut, but that means keeping the old ones in longer during the slow seasons.

There is a pretty small list of 3D eligible films at the top of the box office. Sucker Punch was supposed to be converted into 3D but they cancelled that.

Wait until the Summer, this Summer will test theatres on which films they show in 3D and which ones they don't. From May until August there are 13 3D films coming out.

Thor
Priest
Pirates 4
Kung Fu Panda 2
Green Lantern
Cars 2
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part Two)
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Smurfs
Fright Night
Spy Kids 4
Final Destination 5

Hop isn't in 3D anyway.

Your theater has ZERO 3D movies? I'm moving to your town! I dream of a day when 3D is nothing but yesterday's garbage.

Yeah, all those newfangled features with their sound, color, widescreen photography. Who needs all of that?

No it doesn't. Any digital 3D screen can also play digital 2D.

And for the record, although I don't know of any theatres that have it, Technicolor has a modern 3D film-based system that's less expensive than digital 3D.

There are 2147 RealD 3D screens in the United States. And that's only RealD. Dolby's got another 200-300.

But there's not much playing right now in 3D. Looking in today's NY Times, the only thing I notice in 3D is "Mars Needs Moms".
