I purchased the Onkyo HT-S6100 and it has yet to arrive but I fear I have overlooked a critical thing before I bought, speaker placement. My initial thoughts were to use it as a 5.1 system and maybe put the other 2 speakers in a different room or outside when in the yard I could hear some music. Anyway, the room it will be in is about 12'x24' and a rather odd arrangement of the tv and sitting area. The only option for arrangement is the way it is now so I will need to adapt my surround sound to how I have it set up now and hopefully some more of you experienced people can help me out and tell me if this is at all possible. The TV [samsung 52-650A] is in the corner of the 12' wall and the sitting area is about 12' or so from it againt the wall to the right, so it is diagonal from the tv. Anyway, none of my L or R speakers (front of back) will be equally spaced from the vieweing and listening area, not even close to equal. All the right channels will be right on top of me more or less and all left channels will have a much greater distance. Will I be able to achieve some what good sound from the system I choose or should I rethink my purchase? Will the reciever have capabilities of balancing out the speakers relative to where I will be sitting and viewing it? Thank in advance

Im sure you will get more responses if you post a pic of your layout...I can speak for the 6100 in that it CAN balance out the sound...it can measure the distance of the speakers and you can also adjust the amount of db's coming out of each individual speaker.

I will post some pics of the room shortly that will give a idea of what I am trying to explain, thanks for the response!

I keep getting a error when trying to upload the pics, so I can try to explain it a little better.
A 12'x24' room. Imagine the LCD being in the utmost top corner to the left. The sitting area flat against the wall on the right side maybe 10' to 12' away from LCD, half way of the distance of the room on the wall. But if you stated before I can set it up with the mic and also play around a little with the db levels and adjust each speaker accordingly then I should hopefully in many days of trial and error get it to my liking so it is all balanced. I am extremely worried it will not be a balanced sound since everything is not symmetrical like most everyones that I see pics of on the community boards. |
