Default Blu Ray Quality

Hello all, new to the forums.

Been wondering about this lately.....I have a 32" Olevia HDTV connected via HDMI to my PS3. I have The Departed on Blu Ray and aside from the movie being bad ass, IMO it doesn't look at good as The Goodfellas on Blu Ray or Casino Royale. I've checked the res at which it is running and it's running at 1080i, both the movies are. Wasn't The Departed one of the first Blu Ray's released? I was wondering maybe the specs on The Departed weren't as good as Goodfellas. Just found it odd that you could tell a difference when one was made 15+yrs earlier than the other.

I believe it was released this year. Others have put it down as one of their favorite films. I haven't seen it so I can't comment on what you are seeing.

Full Metal Jacket is the worst I have seen so far. There is one scene at night where the the film's negative looks like it was stored in a pet kennel.

There is nothing wrong with Mpeg 2 encodes if they give it some breathing room. Full Metal Jacket just wasn't remastered or given the kid gloves required for a top notch viewing experience.

Oh no, these haters start to penetrate this forum as well? MPEG2 is just a tool. Whether the movie encoded in MPEG2 looks good or bad totally depends of how the movie was authored. There are many MPEG2 based movies that have class leading picture quality.
So, Zaphod, do yourself a favor - if you are not just trollling here, go ahead and read a little more before posting these hate messages.
