Default Display changes with HDMI over Optical?

I have a Sony BDP S550 and Sony Bravia KLV-46X350A. I recently purchased a Denon 1909. I first began by using an optical cable and was getting sound from only 2 channels barring the center speaker. But after reading through informative stuff here in this forum, I bought a HDMI cable and took out the optical one.

The sound is kick ass now but the display has started to appear a little darkened than what I used to get with optical cable...The Dark Knight Blu-ray has begun to appear some shade darker than before

Is something wrong with my connections?

I am in Mumbai, India.

The video settings for the HDMI output on the receiver might need to be changed. Display calibration might be needed.

think my tv has different black enhancement options for hdmi as opposed to the other inputs. So you may need to list your tv model and see fi someone has that model and knows what needs to be adjusted.
