is it safe to say amazon's $55.99 price point is about as cheap as it's getting?

I've held off for a really good price...bite now or wait?

I recently ordered the UK 5 disc version of this for $35 including shipping from AmazonUK. There's other threads on this in the hot deals forum. Apparently due to the improving dollar, BDs can be had for prices that often are better than in the US though you want to be sure the disc is an all region disc.

Yep, check out Amazon UK. That's the best deal and it's a 5 disc set. I posted photos of the set in the boxset pics thread.

The cheapest I have seen it here in Canuckland is $90.

I hear ya! Sometimes it sucks to be Canadian! But then again, the internet gives us options and amazon UK is a great place to buy from. Our dollar is relatively strong against the BP and I've ordered from them before. Their packaging is good, shipping rates are good and I have yet to be dinged with any duties. The PE deal is not one to be missed as it won't likely go any lower for perhaps a very long time.
