Default Will a regular BD Player play foreign releases?

I have some UK and Canadian releases that all play just fine with no problems on my PS3. But will they also work on any other standard US BD Player, specifically the Sony branded players?

How can I tell then? I was looking at the PS3 specs for the 80GB version on here, but it doesn't indicate whether it can or cannot, but it does. So how will I know for any other player?

Any movie you have will play in a standard US player (as well as a US PS3) as long as those movies are region free (A,B, and C) or at least region A as well.

US players (PS3 or Stand-alone's), which are not modified, will ONLY play Blu-ray discs from region/zone A or so-called Region-free discs (that play on every player).

Luckily, there are more Region-free discs than Region-locked discs. This might be the reason that your (or, some of your) UK-discs did play on your PS3. Some other discs from the UK might be Region-locked on Region-B, so they will not play on your/a US-player/PS3. Of course, Canada is in the same region as the US, so discs from that country will never be a problem for US-players.

For a list of Region-free/locked discs, see:
http://bluray.liesinc.net/
(you can select the Region A, B, or C at the top)
