I haven't seen a thread like this and it seemed like a good idea so here it goes...
My most Overated movies of the year go to Rise of the Planet of the Apes & Tree of Life. "Rise" wasn't bad it just wasn't all that good either and Tree of Life was just bad plain and simple. Let's keep in mind that we're all entitled to our own opinion... ![]() |

Same here, hands down The Hangover Part II for me. My disappointment of the same exact story line made any funny parts start to seem almost annoying in a way, if you know what i mean.

Thor. Not sure why the critics were so gentle on it, it was one of the most forgettable and formulaic movies I've seen in the last few years.
I liked Drive well enough, but was a bit puzzled by all the acclaim it got. Maybe I went into it with the wrong expectations, and need to see it again ![]() |

Super 8. J.J. Abrams lame attempt at a Cloverfield sequel. The more I think about the movie the more I dislike it.
Battle: LA - AWESOME teaser trailer...AWFUL film. Bad Teacher - Great concept, sadly not funny at all. Green Lantern - Worst Superhero film of the year. So full of potential, but all of it was sadly wasted. Last edited by bam777; 01-04-2012 at 06:58 AM. |

![]() My overrated film is Rise of the Planet of the Apes, not that I think it's bad, just I don't love it like everyone else. It decidedly ties together it's weakest part with it's strongest part of the film to create a void of quality in the middle of the film, bringing down it's best moment of the film, while just being able to keep on track. It was too short, and just didn't feel like a rise, more an attack of the apes. The entire thing felt rushed to me, if it had an extra 30 mins to pad up and set up other things, for example, the father having his alzheimer's return, then I would of been more on board, and I would agree with the people who love the film. I'm also waiting for the day I can look at a film like this and say "Wow, that is completely real, how did they do that" instead of "Oh wow the CGI here is pretty good". Plus, when you have scenes with great effects, and then some with some not so great effects, it creates a sort of Frankenstein monster effect. Not a bad film by any means, but I feel more a missed opportunity to have something phenomenal. |

Just my personal opinion. I didn't like it in theaters, and I dislike it even more now. To me if felt like Cloverfield set in the 70s. A Cloverfied prequel I guess...before the alien makes it to New York.

It wasn't though, it doesn't bother me that you dislike the film, but it wasn't a Cloverfield prequel (although it wouldn't surprise me if it was once conceived as being that before becoming Super 8) the focus is too much on the kids and the entire style and vibe is completely different to Cloverfield.

I also really enjoyed Super 8. The Tree Of Life is a matter of taste. To call it bad won't do you any favor, because you apparently just didn't get it, at all. That doesn't make it bad for anyone, but you. The Tree of Life is extremely deep and poetic, as well as spiritual to the bone. It's not everyone's cup of tea. That's for sure. My vote for most overrated movie of 2011 would go to "Crazy Stupid Love". I blind-bought it during BF week, and "liked" it, but it's nowhere near as good as many make it out to be. Emma Stone made me wanna puke several times. She is sooooo disgusting. To me, the two getting together in the end is about as believable as Santa Claus marrying Rudolf the Reindeer. Does anyone find her attractive???? ![]() It was fun, and for once, I didn't hate Steve Carrell in a role, as he was holding back his usual character this time around. I'd rate it 3,5. |

![]() That's cool if you liked the movie (all films are subjective, and that's the beauty of film), but i'm just stating my personal opinion. |
