Default Whats next? Upgrade :P

I just purchased a HTR-6160 which I am upgrading from a HTR-5960, as I enjoy my upgrade, I decided what else is it time to upgrade. I currently use an older '04 Cadence speaker setup (5.1) which I have posted elsewhere hoping to get them identified.

I currently live in an apartment and the living room is 18' X 12'
What would be a decent entry level speakers for the size of room I have?
Im also interested in knowing what sub would best benefit this type of environment.

Thank you so much for your time.

Congrats on the AVR upgrade. What is your budget for a speaker upgrade? Is it a 5.1 setup your looking for?

It is always one simple, easy to say, hard to use word...BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET.
There is no "entry level" speaker.
Speaker suggestions are, arguably, the most difficult to answer because we all hear differently and what matters most is how it sounds to you.
Generally when we suggest a brand it is a brand we are at least familiar with or more generally what we prefer.
'04 Cadence speakers are still new and unless ridden hard and put away wet should be fine for a long time. Why do you want to replace them?
Room acoustics also play a role in the sound quality of the room you use for movies, music, etc.
Give us more info and we will be better able to give more useful suggestions.

As my funds are very limited due to the fact my employer is the federal government, I would be making my upgrade over time. I would be up for suggestions but I would say probably around $200 per speaker(s)
5.1 for starters, but will upgrade to 7.1

I would probably start with a center channel upgrade and then front channel.

as far as why I want to upgrade from the cadence, is I know there has got to be better sound quality to be had and while these sound great, I cant help but know that I am not touching the possibilitys of the new reciever. I also cant tell you the model #'s cause they are not listed on them and I dont remember them...they dont show up on cadence website.

I was going to suggest the RM6750 Polk set-up ($213/Amazon) and Upgrade from the 8" Sub to the PSW-10/$100 most places (I have 2, just hooked up the 2nd one Wed., & Love the Dual Sub action - & my room is only 11x13). But seeing the larger size of your room, I'd suggest either the RM6880 set ($599/Amazon), or the Center CS10/$129 & then for your fronts, the T90e's/$149 currently, but have been as low as $129, & as high as $179 per. These last 2 are both at www.newegg.com

if you are looking at around $200 a speaker you need to look at YAMAHA's preformance series speakers. I love my YAMAHA's get the NS-777 (thats what I have) or NS-555 they are a little smaller for the L/R. a NS-C444 for the center. and two NS-333 for surround. all 5 speakers may run you around $600-$700. I still need to replace my center, surround, and surround back with new YAMAHA's someday.

take a look at my NS-777's in my HT gallery. good luck
