Default BDP-S1 problem

Hello,

Earlier today I tried upgrading the firmware for my player via. burning a dvd-r with the .iso from the sony.com site. Followed the directions, installed it, though it never got past the downloading 1 stage and just shut off. Now every time I try to start it I'm getting "WRT FAIL" followed by the tray ejecting and the player shutting off without closing the tray. According to the site this means the update failed and to redownload and reburn which I've now done 3 dvd-rs and 1 dvd+r. I tried the 1-800 sony number but got some guy who barely spoke English and didn't know what Canada was. I don't know if there's a way to fix this or to simply revert to the original firmware, but I'm trying to avoid needing to send it in. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

Try a CD-R or CD-R/W disc. Everywhere I have read about updating CD-R's are used Not DVD-r.

DON'T try CD-Rs, as the BDP-S1 CANNOT play CDs of any type at all. Chrissr, are you burning the .iso as a disc image and not as a data disc? There is a difference.

Like stated before when you burn your disc it must be burned as an image instead of a data disc because the player won't be able to access the the info on the disc if it's burned as data. Try that and let us know.

I have exactly the same problem, am now getting WRT FAIL and will not play anything. I have downloaded and burnt the discs 4 times and even got a friend to download and burn from their computer. Have even tried to put the original 1.55 firmware disc that I intalled when I had the player, but same message WRT FAIL. Being in the UK I am now stuck with a dead player and cannot call the Sony helpline

Was really looking forward to this up date to correct the problem with the 24fps stutter on my Sony Pearl projector.
