Default damn upgrade bug

so out of curiousity at least in regards to the polk line how high up over my monitor 70's would i have to go to get a worthwhile upgrade? I was thinking RTi A9? if i did get new speakers i would pick up a dedicated power amp for them as well, probably an emotiva xpa-5 or similar. Or would those speakers not be much of an upgrade? My monitor 70's dont seem to have the midbass punch im looking for.

If i was looking to upgrade are there any brands that i should consider (knowing ill have to buy a matching center channel) in the price range of the RTi A9's? (i think i saw some martin logans in that price range at the fancy section in best buy)

Don't limit yourself to Polks, get out there and audition everything you possibly can!

the a7's are a good step up I even have to say clarity wise switching my a5's up front and picking up a csi a4 made a differnce Heres what I am thinking since you want to get the emotiva get that first and then jump all the way up to the lsi series you can get refurb 1si 15's and 25's from polk direct cheaper than the a9's.Thats what I think I am gonna do anyways although the a9's are sooo pretty!!

By the way, stay out of BB! Find out locally if there are any small specialty audio stores close by, they will take better care of you than BB ever could.

I have no idea what price range you're looking at, but I strongly recommend MartinLogan's stuff. I [i]love[/] my ML Spires!

The cheapest pair of ML's at BB is 1500.00, I think he might do better elsewhere, don't you agree?

certainly nothing wrong with sticking with polks. The RtiA9's would be a decent step up from the monitor 70's. i think you'd be fine with the 806 but an external amp would probably do better

If i upgraded the fronts i would get an external amp to go with them.

For the fronts im thinking $1500-$2000 range

How about a pair of these... http://www.salksound.com/songtower.shtml?
You can get a custom finish, they're excellent speakers, and you can also get them in a ribbon tweeter now too. While it is ID only, there are plenty of people that would be willing to let you audition the speakers. Oh, and they were product of the year according to two publications, http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/i...?topic=63195.0. Owning a pair myself, I couldn't be happier. The midrange is excellent, they have plenty of bass punch, and the high end is lush and detailed. They are a great deal for the price, and Jim is an excellent person to deal with.

There are also many other options out there available to look at, such as Martin Logans, B&W's, the polks you were looking at, PSB, Energy, and Paradigm all should have good offerings in that price range.

ML's "The Source" is about $2000, and comes highly recommended in the hifi press. While they won't be in the same league as my Spires, they'll definately give you a taste of the electrostatic magic! The next model up is essentially the same thing, but with a built-in amp, so that might be a cheaper route over all for you.
