According to eproductwars.com, the average sale price for an hd-dud on amazon is $43.00. Blu ray is at 28.00. I know that combo discs are the cause of the difference,(probably) but it just begs the question, why would anyone but those things.

Exactley. I stated in a previous post that the average cost of an HD-DVD is roughly $5-$10 more than it is for Blu-Ray. I think the 360 fan boys think they're getting a better product but in reality they have really high priced drink coasters.

Rental stores would snap them up.
Actually, that is probably what they had in mind with these disks. Rental stores don't want to invest in having more and more on their shelves... this way, they can have both and use the same amount of space. Having more rental stores buying into such a thing could help swing consumers toward HD-DVD, if they see more disks available to them. Doesn't seem to be working, yet. eproductwars.com tracks the average price of the top 10 discs for each format. HD DVD has 3 high priced sets in the top 10 (Planet Earth and the 2 Matrix sets) vs only one such set for Blu Ray. This is causing their average to be considerably higher. |

I bought 6 films the other day and they cost as much as the mission impossible trilogy I bought a few months ago.

Thank you for applying a bit of critical thinking here. An attribute that is seriously declining in many of the people I converse with. I think eProducwars needs to append more info to that metric. We need to know if the avg price is based off of the Top 10 or whatever. You've clarfied this nicely.

This is due largely in part to alot of HD-DVD titles being released on a dual-disc [HD-DVD + DVD] format. Which, of course, costs more.

HD DVD is inheritly more expensive when you factor in the churn. How many A1 owners have we seen sell their 1st gen units to buy the new ones because their supposedly "more complete" format fails to deliver?
