Question Can not get new computer to play sound out of HDMI output

I have the cable connected to my Onkyo and the input selected. The computer says it is playing out of the HDMI output, but I hear no sound.

My setup is as follows:

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS
AMD Phenom™ X4 9750

I just reinstalled the drivers from NVIDIA but it did not help

I had a similar problem with a new dell studio slim. the solution I had to use was to uninstall the audio drivers. Dell tech was useless. I uninstalled both the audio and video drivers and then reinstalled the video drivers. FIXED! don't ask me how but the system has been working since last November like that.

Hope that helps

Try switching devices on the taskbar? I had the same problem on my machine but it was with an optical out. All I had to do was switch the playback device and it worked!

Hope this helps

I have done that. From my research it is looking like this is a unique problem to my system

If I'm not mistaken the 9500gs doesn't offer 7.1 HDMI Audio, it does audio through the HDMI by means of a cable connected from the motherboards SPDIF to the 9500 video card. (The 9300 and 9400 GeForce motherboards are the only NVidia offerings that I know of that offer 7.1 HDMI Audio).
