Default Onkyo 606 or Yamaha RX-V665??

Trying to decide between the Onkyo 606 and the Yamaha RX-V665. Is it worth spending the extra for the Yamaha?

This is gonna be my first setup, I just got the following speakers to hook up to my new receiver once I get it

RM6751 2 front / 2 back
RM6752 Center Channel
PSW10 Subwoofer

Thanks

Since you have satellite speakers for the front and back, having the Yamaha may be more than you need. You will get as good quality of sound using the Onkyo as the Yamaha, as you are limited by the speakers you have.

That's what I was thinking, I'm leaning towards the Yamaha because I might wanna upgrade in the future.

I'm not familiar with the new model Yammy, but what does it have over the Onkyo? I think it has pre-outs, yes? Jumping from a satellite setup to separates is a pretty big jump.

If you are going to upgrade in the near future, then yes, go with the Yamaha. I just have a feeling that if a good amount of time goes by between now and then, that once you upgrade your speakers, there will be something even better than the Yamaha for the right price at that time, so wanting to get the Yamaha now and then an even better receiver than the Yamaha when you get new speakers would not be a big surprise to anyone here. I'm sure you know what upgraditis is ........Yamaha now...could be Denon, Marantz, etc.... later...who knows.

Good luck on your purchase no matter which way you go!

Cool. You will suddenly find out why so many here rave about their home audio.......I underestimated the value of a good sound system until I had my own.....what an idiot I was....

I recommend the Yamaha only because it has pre-outs. If you upgrade your speakers down the road you may end up in the same boat I'm in right now: wishing you could add an amp, but can't because I have an Onkyo 605 reciever that doesn't have pre-outs. If you stay with Onkyo I recommend stepping up to the 706 for the pre-outs.
