Default Eraserhead on Blu-ray

My wet dream. Eraserhead may be my favouritt movie of all time, its certainly one of the best audio-visuall experiences Ive ever had. Just picture the film in HD on a nice Blu-Ray Disk.

Is it true that David Lynch has all the rights for releasing this movie, and that nobody else can do anything until David snaps his fingers?

Pretty much. The DVD could be bought only at his site, at first. Later on it was available through all retailers. An HD master was made for that DVD release, so it shouldn't be too difficult to release it on Blu. It's just a matter of waiting. In the mean time, I wouldn't mind seeing some other titles of his on BD as well. I know The Elephant Man and Mulholland Drive are out in Europe, but the customer reviews on those aren't exactly favorable.

"Eraserhead" is probably the wierdest movie I've seen...I'll probably buy it anyway if it's put out on Blu-Ray.

I'm really hoping to get "Dune" on BD some day (heck, I might order one of the imports).

David Lynch was in Norway this monday and tuesday for two apperances. The first day he was at the norwegian cinematheque for a 1 1/2-hour long conversation and Q&A. I asked him about Eraserhead on Blu-Ray. He didnt say it would never come, but he did say that he had seen a HD-master of Eraserhead, but he didnt like it. To be honest I dont remember much of what he said because I was so excited and my heart was pumping like crazy. The whole thing was filmed and will soon be available online. Ill post it then.

These were pretty solid releases, with not a huge amount that could be done to improve them. Wild at Heart is getting a release across Europe, and Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me and Lost Highway are being released in France. Inland Empire is out in the UK, along with MD and TEM. That makes Blue Velvet and Eraserhead the only ones without a certain release. I'd looove Eraserhead so much, but I just can't really see Lynch that bothered about putting it out there. Maybe one day. I'd love it if Criterion or someone bought the rights to one of these remaining ones. Who has the rights for Blue Velvet anyway, MGM? Guess that would explain why that's not out yet...

You're forgetting The Straight Story .

And about Mulholland Drive, I was talking about the old release. I myself own the StudioCanal version, and that one looks fantastic. Still haven't seen The Elephant Man, though, but that probably looks as good as it gets too.

The DVD was released by Disney in the US, and IMDb lists 9(!) production companies, among which there's StudioCanal, so there might be a StudioCanal Blu-ray release. The perfect situation would be that Lynch bought the rights back, so we know we'd get a fantastic release.

I wish he'd let Criterion release his movies on blu while he's going around talking about meditation. He'll never get around to it himself at this rate
